The Dancing On Ice star opened up about her motherhood journey with her two children

Ferne McCann has opened up about breastfeeding her 20-month-old daughter – encouraging other mums to “keep going”.

The Dancing On Ice star admitted feeling nervous about sharing the update, saying she was worried about what others would think of it. Posting a picture of her feeding Finty, Ferne said she was feeling the pressure to stop – but reassured other mums in the same boat that they weren’t alone. Mum-of-two Ferne, who also has seven-year-old Sunday, wrote on Instagram: “Haven’t posted about my breastfeeding journey in a while, but I still get a lot of people asking if I’m still doing it. In complete honesty, I’ve been a bit nervous to share about it lately. Even though I’m such a big advocate for breastfeeding, the truth is, I’ve been afraid of what people might think or say now that Finty is 20 months old.”

She continued: “I’m sharing this because if you’re like me and still feeding, and you’re feeling pressure to stop or wondering if it’s ‘not the norm’ to breastfeed past one, I just want you to know…there are plenty of mums still doing it. Keep going, mamma. However it looks do your normal.”

In response to the post, former TOWIE-star Ferne received a flood of supportive messages.

Olympic cyclist Dame Sarah Storey wrote: “Very well said. I breastfed my two for 4 years each time and both decided they were ready to stop when it happened. It’s such a small time of their lifetime and so it’s always so lovely to see and hear of other mums who are breastfeeding toddlers and pre-schoolers too.”

Another mum wrote: “This is just what i needed to see! my little one is 19 mo and definitely feeling the pressure to stop. But i’m glad i’m not the only one still going.” Another agreed: “It’s beautiful and NHS recommend till 2 years old!”

Ferne has always been open about her family life, letting cameras follow her first on ITVBe show First Time Mum from 2017. She has decided to call time on the show (then called My Family & Me), last year for the sake of her children. After thinking about giving her family more privacy for a while, the final straw came for Ferne when her six-year-old daughter Sunday asked her, “Mummy, am I famous?”

Ferne, who shares one-year-old daughter Finty with fiancé Lorri Haines and Sunday from her previous relationship. She opened up about the hurdles in her and Lorri’s relationship after having Finty – saying they had been “prioritising intimacy” after rumours swirled about cracks appearing. “I could have gotten really anxious or down about the split rumours but I’ve just said, ‘Let’s park it and move forward,’” she says.

Ferne and Lorri got engaged in July 2022 after a beach proposal in Dubai and have yet to make any wedding plans. But she says next year could be the time they eventually tie the knot. She said: “I did have wedding fever over the summer, we went to some amazing weddings. I even started a Pinterest board! But it’s about priorities and this year’s a big year. Planning a wedding is a mammoth task and, if I’m honest, I’m not sure I can take the added stress at the moment. Maybe 2026, we’ll see!”
