Manchester United have twice seen off Fulham this season with former player Andreas Pereira claiming they were “lucky” to get the better of the Cottagers as they prepare to face off in the FA Cup
Andreas Pereira claims Manchester United have been “a little lucky” during their two wins over Fulham this term.
The Premier League outfits will face off for a third time when they clash in the fifth round of the FA Cup. On both previous occasions the Manchester outfit have secured narrow 1-0 victories despite enduring a difficult campaign.
Fulham sit above the Red Devils and are in the hunt for a Champions League spot. They lost at Old Trafford on the opening night of the season as Joshua Zirkzee scored late on. Several weeks ago Ruben Amorim’s side secured a 1-0 win at Craven Cottage, courtesy of Lisandro Martinez’s deflected strike.
The west Londoners will get the chance to atone for those two losses when they face off on Sunday night with Pereira returning to the club he once called home.
He told FFCTV: “I’m looking forward to it. For me, it’s going to be a particularly special game. We still have the feeling from the first year I was here, what happened. For sure, we’re going to be prepared for everything. It’s a special game, a special place for everyone I think.
“We played United twice this season and maybe they came out a little lucky. We learned a lot from these two games and I’m sure the players have extra fire in the belly to go against them.”
In the last 15 years Fulham have beaten United just once, that coming last year at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Marco Silva has presided over another impressive season and they’ve been tipped to down the holders this weekend.
The FA Cup is one of the only remaining silverware hopes United still have. Erik ten Hag was able to shock Manchester City to win the tournament last season and a repeat success would be massive for Amorim, who is still looking to prove himself after a slow start to life as the club’s manager.
Alan Shearer though is among those backing Fulham to secure a rare win against the Red Devils. He told Metro: “I watched the Man Utd game for the first-half against Ipswich and once again they were all over the place. This game is a tough one to call. It will be a long afternoon – I’m not impressed with Man United, they’re in a really tough situation at the moment, so I’m going to go for an away win.”
