The terrifying CCTV clip shows a dog lunging at the little girl after barging into the lift in a block of flats in Noida, India, before a hero neighbour helps kick it away
Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a little girl is savaged by a dog as she tries to get home in a lift.
The incident took place in an affluent neighbourhood of Noida, India. The video shows the lift opening and the dog rushing in and immediately jumping on the little girl.
A heroic neighbour then pushes in and pushes the girl back while kicking the dog out. The girl then quickly closes the lift door and clutches her injured hand in pain, wiping out her tears. She then exits after the lift reaches the ground floor. No statement has been issued by police regarding the attack.
The incident is only the latest in a growing list of dog attacks in Uttar Pradesh, a region bordering the New Dehli urban area. According to local reports, a German Shepherd was last month seen charging at a six-year-old girl riding her bicycle within an apartment complex in Ghaziabad.
In March, India’s Department of Animal Husbandry asked states to ban selling and breeding 23 banned dog breeds, including pitbull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Rottweilers, and Mastiffs. The directive added that those with these breeds as pets must seek to have them sterilised immediately.
The Animal Husbandry Department said it had “received representations from citizen forums and Animal Welfare Organisations” to ban people from keeping some breeds as pets. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently reported that incidents of dog bites in India have risen 26.5% year-on-year, going from 2.18 million incidents in 2022 to 2.75 million incidents in 2023.
