A groundbreaking scheme to help people dementia is being launched.

The Furness Dementia Partnership is presenting a ground breaking festival showcasing the creativity and talents of people living with dementia, featuring dementia-friendly performances for all to enjoy. This inspiring event is set to take place from 31st January to 23rd February 2024 and offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the experiences and resilience of this vibrant community.

This unique event will be held at various community venues and promises to be an inspiring showcase of art, music, and literature co-created with and for individuals living with dementia. This festival offers an inclusive and safe space for creative expression, aiming to foster understanding, joy, and connection through diverse art forms. Attendees will experience everything from powerful musical performances to thought-provoking art exhibitions and literary readings, all designed to engage, uplift, and inspire.

The festival will include:

  • Art Exhibitions: Local artists, including those living with dementia, will present works that challenge perceptions about dementia and celebrate creativity at all stages of life.
  • Music Performances: Interactive dance sessions and live performances showcasing how music can evoke powerful memories and bring people together.
  • Live theatre: Award winning theatre company Pluto Productions will be performing This powerful play, commissioned by a major NHS Trust, highlights the importance of holistic care for patients with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It encourages healthcare professionals to look beyond clinical diagnoses and consider the life stories of those in their care.
  • Workshops: Hands-on creative workshops and reminiscence sessions for people living with dementia, their families, and the wider community, fostering shared experiences.

The festival emphasises community collaboration, featuring contributions from local artists, performers, and volunteers. By using diverse venues across the area, the event hopes to reach as many people as possible, highlighting the richness of cultural life within the community.
