A 24-year-old German tourist had returned to his hotel in Majorca after a night out before realising he was locked out so attempted to scale the side of the building before his fall
A half naked tourist who locked himself out of his hotel room attempted to climb back in by scaling the side of the building and fell to his death on holiday island Majorca.
The unnamed 24-year-old was staying at the Timor hotel and had attempted to climb the side of the building at around 3am before seemingly slipping to his doom. Local media suggested the German had arrived in Majorca the day before the accident and had been out partying with friends before realising he was locked out.
He attempted to climb the building but, at the fourth floor, slipped and fell. It is believed the man, who was not wearing trousers or shoes, died instantly.
Last year a British tourist was left fighting for his life after plunging from the third-floor of an apartment block in Magaluf . The man, believed to be aged 25, was rushed to hospital with “very serious” injuries to his face and head.
The apartment block he plunged from was named as the Maria Elena building in a street known as Federico Garcia Lorca. Local reports describe him as British.
It is understood he lost his balance. One island newspaper said he had been in a “critical” condition when he was taken to Son Espases Hospital in the Majorcan capital Palma. A source said: “The 25-year-old patient is in intensive care with multiple injuries.”
In August four British teenagers were handed fines after they were caught “balconing” in Spain . Calvia Council, which is responsible for the party resort of Magaluf , said five foreign holidaymakers had been fined for the dangerous practice. They were handed fines of £30,720 each and kicked out of their hotels. Today town hall officials said four of the men were British and the fifth a Swedish tourist. Two of the Brits were 18 and the other two 19.
The offending took place between June 4 and August 8, with the last incident unfolding at 6am on August 8 when a tourist was seen jumping from one hotel balcony to another. The hotels they were staying at, which ordered them to leave as soon as they were identified, have not been named.
Juan Feliu, Calvia Council’s general director of Activities and Commerce, Offences and Penalties, said: “Balconing is not going to be tolerated in our municipality. It’s an irresponsible practice that can cause serious and irreversible injuries and even death. “It’s obviously the last thing one would want for those who visit us. This is not leisure, it’s a very dangerous irresponsible act and it’s not the image we want for our municipality.”
