England captain Harry Kane will be reunited with his former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel at international level and has shared his thoughts on the new boss

Harry Kane insists England have got the right man in Thomas Tuchel to turn them into winners.

England captain Kane played under Tuchel at Bayern Munich and believes the no-nonsense German can get them over the line at major tournaments.

The Three Lions had two near misses after reaching successive finals in the Euros and now Tuchel has been brought in to deliver the World Cup.

Kane told ITV : “I think they have (the best man). He is straight talking if you are doing well or bad. He treats you like an adult and on the pitch he is demanding.

“You have to try and pick the best coach to win a major tournament and we are at that stage now. The only step is to win and Thomas brings a winning mentality. Especially at tournaments, something he excels in.

“Tactically, he is one of the best managers there is. He had a certain way at Bayern but that was different to Chelsea so it will be interesting to see how he sees us. Tactically he has an amazing brain and he understands all the small things which matter.”

But Kane admitted that, despite having a strong relationship with Tuchel, he was taken aback by the appointment. Kane said: “ I was surprised to be honest. I was not expecting it.

“I worked with Thomas last year and had a really good relationship with him and expected him to go back to club football but I was pleasantly surprised and he was a big part of me going to Bayern Munich.

“He is an all-round great person and the sense he will bring a lot of energy and passion to the team.”

Kane also promised to exact revenge against Greece after they beat England at Wembley last month. He added: “As an England player you are expected to win every game and not doing that against Greece in the last camp hurt us and now we have a tough game.”
