Harry Kane reveals club he’s desperate to join as trophy wait finally comes to end

England captain Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 and is on the cusp of winning his first Bundesliga title with the Bavarian giants

Bayern Munich star Harry Kane wants to join a different kind of club altogether when he eventually calls time on his football career. The hole in one club, to be specific.

Kane is far from the only footballer to take a keen interest in golf. Another former Tottenham star, Wales international Gareth Bale, picked up his clubs not long after hanging up his boots in 2023.

“I’ve never got a hole in one,” Kane admitted on his Cleats Club channel (via Goal). “One of my lifetime goals is to join the hole in one club!”

On the football pitch, Kane – like Bale – has been forced to leave North London in order to break his league title drought. Bayern can clinch the Bundesliga title against RB Leipzig this afternoon, though he will be suspended for the game itself.

The England captain top-scored in the Bundesliga last season and is on course to repeat the feat this term. He sits five goals clear of closest challenger Patrik Schick, though the Leverkusen star is enjoying the best season of his career when it comes to goals in all competitions.

Kane’s fifth yellow card of the season came for time-wasting in a victory against Mainz which put Bayern on the cusp of the title. Bayern were already 2-0 up when he went into the book late in the first half, and eventually won 3-0 with Eric Dier sealing victory.

The Bundesliga’s suspension rules are different to those in the Premier League, where Kane spent the bulk of his career. In the English top-flight, the cut-off for a suspension for five yellow cards comes halfway through the season, and players can’t earn yellow card suspensions of any kind after gameweek 32 of 38.

“First of all, I think it’s an insane decision,” Kane said of his booking against Mainz. “It’s never a yellow card. Unfortunately, sometimes people come to the Allianz Arena and try to make a name for themselves.

“That’s why I’m really disappointed that I got the yellow card, because of course I knew I already had four. And secondly, I think the rule is crazy anyway. Five yellow cards in 34 games means a suspension. Crazy, crazy decision. It’s kind of my story that I’ll miss the Leipzig game. But no worries, I’ll celebrate more than anyone else.”

Bayern sit eight points ahead of second-place Leverkusen with three games of the season remaining. That means a draw or defeat against Champions League chasers Leipzig will still see them crowned champions this weekend if Leverkusen drop points against Freiburg on Sunday.
