TikTok and Instagram feeds were flooded with these products just weeks ago – but some have had to speak out
Home Bargains shoppers were split when a viral product reappeared on shop shelves. Usually, fans can’t wait for a restock – but this batch came with some personal warnings.
Posting in the Facebook group ‘Snack Reviews’, one shopper shared: “Home Bargains have loads of freeze-dried sweets!” She put up a photo alongside her post showing the stacked display with products starting from £1.49.
The treats, which include a range of classic sweets, went viral just before Christmas as shoppers scrambled to find and stash them away as gifts. They quickly sold out across the country due to their afforrdable prices.
Typically, a bag of freeze-dried sweets would cost more than a normal bag due to the expensive process of creating them. According to Candy Mail UK, the process involves removing all the water from a sweet.
This is said to leave behind a “more intense and sweeter flavour” due to the now “exceptionally concentrated” sugar and flavours. The process also makes the sweets look like that have ‘exploded’ and increased in size.
So, you’d expect shoppers to be thrilled at another chance to bag some once-viral goodies again. Well, shoppers were divided as some took to the post to complain, and a handful of customers even issued warnings.
One said: “I tried one and had to spit it out, it tasted bloody awful!” Another added: “I don’t think they are nice at all. I brought one of each packet and threw them away. The skittles are ok-ish, but I wouldn’t buy them again.”
Someone else commented: “Please save your money and do not buy these sweets. They’re honestly not worth the hype!”
However, a few were glad to see the treat back on shop shelves. A fan said: “I wanna try these so bad!” whilst a second person, tagging a friend, wrote: “They’re back! We need to get to Home Bargains ASAP!”
Someone else added: “Had these at Christmas. They’re so nice and at a good price too, need to get some more. Thanks so much for sharing!”
