A video shows the horrifying moment Liverpool police surround a black car after it ran down dozens of fans in the street celebrating the Reds’ Premier League title win

A car has reportedly driven into a crowd celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League title win, and a horrifying video has captured the aftermath.

The video shows police surrounding the car, after it finally stopped in the crowd. It had just run down dozens of people, before coming to a stop.

A man was arrested at the scene, police confirmed, after the car drove through a crowd shortly after 6pm.

The car was seen driving down Water Street in Liverpool, before ploughing into numerous fans. Horrifying footage on social media showed numerous fans on the ground after being hit by the car.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.

“We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.

“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.

“Emergency services are currently on the scene.

“We will issue more updates as we have them.”

The car appeared to slow down and accelerate again a few times, before coming to a complete stop in the middle of the street.

Fans were seen desperately running toward the car after it stopped, in order to apprehend the driver.

Police quickly swooped in and cleared the crowd, before surrounding the vehicle.

It’s unclear how many people were injured during the incident, but North West Ambulance Service confirmed it was giving medical help on the ground.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “NWAS is supporting an incident in Liverpool city centre, following reports of a road traffic collision.

“We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible.

“Updates will be published on this page and Mersey Police as we know more.”

An air ambulance was later seen landing near the Liver Building.

Several ambulances, fire engines and police cars were on the scene around Water Street and Dale Street.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer was also being kept updated after the horror events in Liverpool, it’s believed.
