A young woman was left reeling after her neighbour sent her a string of sweary messages in response to her request for him to stop his dog from using her garden as a toilet
An 18-year-old woman was left shocked by her neighbour’s response after she texted him to ask he stop his dog from using her garden as a loo.
Good neighbours can make your living space feel like a slice of heaven, but bad ones can turn it into a nightmare. Whether they’re noisy, messy, or just plain rude, difficult neighbours are the last thing you want.
The young woman, who is living alone for the first time, took to Reddit’s Am I Overreacting? forum to seek advice after being rattled by her neighbour’s reply regarding his Pitbull (a breed banned in the UK, although it isn’t clear where this took place), Bruno, doing his business in her garden.
She shared screenshots of their text exchange and expressed her frustration. In the caption accompanying the images, she said: “This is not a conversation between adults, we’re young adults. I was frustrated and texted him about it and this is the attitude. I’m so done. It’s my first time living alone, is this normal or am I overreacting?”
In her initial message sent at 1am, she confronted her neighbour: “Hello, I’m [blank]. I’ve already mentioned Bruno using my front yard as a toilet to you, but you seem to be taking no action? Please train him or keep him within your boundaries.”
Her neighbour wasn’t having any of it and sent back an expletive-riddled reply: “At 1am midnight for f***s sake. You sound like he’s doing it NOW.”
He then oddly questioned her: “Why the f*** you so polite for? We’re almost the same age” before ranting further: “And, I’VE ALREADY told you I’LL clean it. It’s not my problem that you clean it before I do. This s*** ain’t a f***ing competition. It’s something so silly what the f*** are you getting so worked up for???”
In retaliation, the young woman apologised for the timing of her complaint but stood her ground: “I apologise for the ungodly hour I brought this up. I prefer my front yard with no dog s***. I clean it because you refuse to do it on time.
“I can’t just let it be dirty for weeks. The last time I waited for almost a WEEK before I did it myself. When were you even planning to do that? It’s gross and it stinks. He did this evening and I’ll have to clean it up because WHEN WILL YOU??”

Her neighbour shot back calling her “so dramatic” and bombarded her with messages that read: “Well clean it up yourself if you’re so impatient. I can’t train him, he’s too aggressive, bear with it. Don’t text me about this s*** anymore or I’m f***ing blocking you. Nosy overdramatic b****”.
Stunned by the hostile exchange, she turned online for advice, with one user suggesting: “Get a shovel and loft the dog’s poop onto his roof.” Another person was in agreement, saying: “Front porch so he steps in it when he walks out. Every time.”
Another person added: “And if he complains, send him a screenshot of his own text that says ‘nosy overdramatic b****’ or ‘it’s something so silly what the f*** you getting so worked up for’.”
Some even suggested she report him, expressing concern not just about the dog fouling, but also his inappropriate messages and his reference to his dog being “too aggressive”.
