An exhausted mum is furious after cooking Christmas dinner for 30 of her husband’s relatives without any help. The festive period has left her questioning their whole relationship
While Christmas is usually a time for precious family moments and celebration, it’s left one woman questioning her entire marriage.
Hosting Christmas is no small feat; cleaning the house from top to bottom, peeling the seemingly endless mountain of spuds and pouring heaps of prosecco, all while entertaining your guests. So it’s no surprise that most of us feel exhausted afterwards – especially if you’ve done it all alone.
Sadly that’s the case for one woman, who is now at her wits’ end after hosting her husband’s whole family for the festive season and looking after their children without any help from her other half. She’s been left distraught after failing to get any recognition for her efforts and says her affectionless marriage is at breaking point.
While her religious beliefs means she doesn’t celebrate Christmas, the mum still made the effort for her husband’s sake, hosting 30 of his family members as he wanted to “bring his family back together”.
After prepping the whole huge dinner by herself, she had ran out of time to get ready before their guests had arrived and was furious she didn’t get any help from her partner. “Guests arrived I was still in sweats looking like a mess cooking and he was showered dressed and looking fine and was mad at me telling me to drop everything and get ready,” she explained anonymously on Reddit.
The woman cooked an “elaborate” dinner with turkey, lamb shanks and a “million other dishes” despite not even getting a card of any type of gift from anyone.
She continued: “I was drained and exhausted and he was up early Christmas Day but instead of letting me sleep in once with two toddlers who always come in the morning jump on me and keep talking he was taking a bath. And when I said frustratingly ‘you just can’t even let me sleep in once’ he said ‘merry f***ing Christmas to you too’ and that was Christmas Day.” The pair then watched TV in silence and didn’t speak to each other after their guests had left.
It appears things didn’t get easier for the upset wife after Christmas Day either as she said the same happened the following day when her husband had woken her up early to watch their children so he could go to the gym. The distressed mum admitted her husband never makes her a priority even said she has to “beg for sex”.
“It’s been 12 years of this s*** and I’m sick and tired. last time we had sex was in end of August and before that it was 10 months. I know he’s not into me, but he says he loves me,” she wrote. The mum added: “He says he’s bad with romance but this is not romance he just doesn’t put effort in and doesn’t give a F.”
The heartbreaking admission pulled on fellow Redditors heartstrings as one person begged: “Please please leave him. This sounds absolutely soul-crushing,” while another suggested: “It’s ok to leave. There’s nothing you can add to the laundry list of things you do for him and your relationship that will make him magically a better husband or lover.”
