An Airbnb guest has shared a stunning view of one of the Seven Wonders of the World from their ‘cosy’ £60-a-night room that totally surprised them – and travellers cannot believe it
Globe-trotters are buzzing over the remarkable views of a World Wonder from this bargain Airbnb.
We all have different things we want to do on our bucket list. For many, list include travel dreams like cruising along Route 66, stepping foot on every continent, or ticking off the Seven Wonders of the World in their lifetime.
With most of the World Wonders being a fair distance from the UK – think Petra in Jordan, Chichén Itzá in Mexico, Machu Picchu in Peru, The Great Wall of China, Taj Mahal in India and Christ the Redeemer in Brazil – planning a visit can be a costly saga that often requires years of saving.
But, good news for us, there’s a Wonder right here in Europe – Rome’s majestic Colosseum. The average flight from the UK to Rome is just over two and a half hours, and there are often good deals which make it affordable to see the incredible sites the historic city has to offer.
City stays don’t have to break the bank, though, as one savvy tourist to Italy has revealed that cheap Airbnb spots just a stone’s throw from the Colosseum can be snapped up.

Taking to Instagram, @_art3m15 shared: “POV: you paid £60 a night and got a room right next to the Colosseum with a private rooftop. A nice view to wake up to.”
The balcony, complete with a romantic table and chair set for guests, appears to be plucked straight from a rom-com. The traveller revealed that they simply searched for ‘cosy room in front of Colosseum’ and stumbled upon the ideal lodging. The quaint double bedroom, boasting a private en-suite bathroom, is the perfect setting for a love-filled Roman getaway.
Hosted by Marco Valerio, the Airbnb has been praised as: “A historic building steps from the Colosseum, the rustic-shabby chic design creates a cosy vibe. Enjoy the bathroom within the room and access to a shared kitchenette for snacks, coffee, and tea.
“For an unforgettable experience, step out onto the terrace and take in the view of the Colosseum while sipping a glass of wine. Major landmarks are within walking distance, with the metro and buses nearby to explore all the best of Rome.”
The property offers free on-street parking, a TV, air conditioning, hair dryer, Wifi, and of course, the city skyline view.
While @_artm315 managed to secure the room for £60 per night, the price seems to have increased to £104 per night due to high demand. Airbnb currently has a deal for a five-night stay at this accommodation for £519.
One individual commented on the post, saying: “Absolutely worth it i would still book it even if I lived in Rome.” Another added: “Jealous is an understatement,”.
One enthusiastic Italian chimed in: “As an Italian, WOW! That was so worth it! That’s actually very affordable and cheap (for me) since I’ve been to pricier hotels in big cities making my wallet cry.”
A globetrotter who savoured their visit remarked: “I stayed here and it was wonderful! ! Set up a little picnic for the sunset. So blessed.”
Another pleased visitor left their thoughts on Airbnb, noting: “The accommodation was absolutely everything it promised. Our host was superbly organized, and checking in and everything else was easy. The location is, of course, amazing! You just have to be careful not to fall into the tourist trap. I highly recommend it!”.
This sought-after Airbnb still has some slots open in April, but you will find it fully booked for a good three weeks in May. Not to worry though, there’s ample opportunity to book a stay during the buzzing summer months and beyond throughout the year.
