A mum-of 11 has shared a hack which saves her time and enables her to keep her children’s school shirts clean using tips which were given to her by a friend

A busy mum who has 11 children has shared a hack of how she keeps their clothes pristine.

As children are back to school there are more clothes and white shirts to wash with a quick turnaround needed. But social networking site TikTok has come up with a good shortcut which time-poor parents can trytod ensure kids’ clothes remain white.

Mum of 11 Joanne O’Rourke is pretty familiar with doing the washing because of her large family. She told about her ‘washing hack’ online and hoped it would help others annoyed by stains appearing on white clothes – especially on white shirts worn by children.

She used to leave 32 shirts in a bucket to soak this kept them ‘bright and white’ however a different method was revealed by her friend for keeping them pristine.

Joanne knew that it was a much better method and described it as a ‘game-changer’ which she said was ‘less hassle’ and just ‘brilliant’.

She begins by putting all the white garments into the drum of her washing machine. After that, she threw in washing pods and added in ‘few scent boosters for good measure’.

To complete the additions she uses Vanish Oxi Action in the washing machine dryer. Joanne also adds fabric conditioner.

She turns the temperature to 40 degrees and puts it on for a 60-minute cycle.

Joanne said: “What I do now, I leave that machine on, on a Saturday night, for the first 15 minutes so it gets really soapy and really foamy. And then what I do, I pause the machine, then I leave the machine on pause for the whole night so the whites then sit there, and they sit there in the Vanish and all the bits that I’ve put in there, so it’s just like an overnight soaking, so when I get up on Sunday morning, I then press un-pause and the wash will continue.”

Joanne called it a ‘quick way to ensure the white clothes stay white while smelling amazing’. Commenters questioned about her electricity bill and she admitted it does make it go up ‘but it works for me’.

She confirmed soaking the garments in the machine ensures ‘it’s all out the way’. Social media responded with one person replying: “I wish I knew this years ago when mine were in school!”

Another person added: “Oh amazing! I’ll defo try this! Thank you.”

The hack was loved by others too, with one person adding: “I do this and I thought I was a weirdo which is why I didn’t share. Hated having to soak in a bucket to then transfer to the machine.”
