My Kobo Clara Colour has become a staple on my person at all – and Amazon’s Spring Sale means it’s cheaper to buy

I am a reader to the point most people in my life would probably list it in the first three things they say about me. I actually moved across the country just so I could have a home library and opted to use the smaller bedroom for sleeping so my books can have more space.

Ironically I rarely leave the house with a paperback as I’m worried about the damage to the pages so I’ve been known to constantly have my Kobo on me.

I do have a Kindle Paperwhite, and for a long time, that was the staple in my bag, but that was before I found out about the wonders of the Kobo. I have the Kobo Clara Colour, as the name suggests it comes with a coloured screen that still has a paper-like texture. It means I can highlight in four different colours, and the covers aren’t washed out to black and white.

It has really satisfying stats you can access on the book you’re reading and also your entire library. At the top of the page, it tells me how long I have left in the chapter, and further down, I can see what’s left in the book altogether.

At first, it was a little difficult as I have a Kindle library of over 200 books, and you can’t transfer them. I spent a good few hours searching online to see if there was a way to share them, but there isn’t any legitimate way to achieve this, which I found to be a drawback. As a result, my Kindle lives beside my bed so I can tackle both libraries but I now tend to only buy Kobo books as they do price match Amazon – Argos also sells the device for £129.99.

One of the things that makes me swing all the way to team Kobo is a handy little app called Libby. I am constantly recommending it to people as it’s an online library that you can link up to your local library – some libraries even let you sign up completely online for a virtual library card to use with it.

You can listen to audiobooks for free and rent out ebooks that you can read on your Kobo. I do this quite often and will rent out books I own physical copies of so I can read them on the go without having to buy them twice.

I think eReaders are ideal for travel, especially if, like me, you go through a book every two to three days and can find yourself needing a few for a trip. I recently went to France and didn’t even go to breakfast without my Kobo in hand, just in case I got a few minutes to read.

I find the battery life lasts a few books before I have to charge it, and it’s slightly smaller than the Kindle, which allows it to fit nicer in my hand. I would strongly recommend a stand case as it protects the screen from scratches when out and about but also works as a stand for hands-free reading. The Kobo Clara Colour is available for £129.99 on Amazon, Argos and Rakuten Kobo now.
