A mum has confessed to feeling huge regret over the name she picked for her daughter, as she believes it is a ‘mouthful’ to try and pronounce – despite it being fairly common
Choosing a baby name isn’t always easy.
There are countless names to select from when it comes to picking a moniker for your little one, and there’s absolutely no right or wrong answer. Whether you want something timeless or to push the boat out with a unique name, the decision is entirely up to you.
However, this can also come with a lot of pressure, and when you’re heavily pregnant or have just given birth, thinking of a name is one of the last things you want to do. This can make some parents feel “rushed” into choosing a name for their child, which is exactly what happened to one mum who now says she “regrets” the name she picked.
In a post on Reddit, the woman said her daughter is almost one, and when she was born, the mum picked out the name Juliana as she thought it was “uncommon” where she’s from and it sounded “very feminine”.
A year on, however, and the mum now feels as though her daughter’s name is “a mouthful”, and doesn’t like any of the usual nicknames like Jules, Julie, or Julia. She also said she feels like names ending in “-iana” have become “generic and too common”, even though Juliana specifically isn’t that common where she’s from.
She explained: “So my baby is almost one and I’m wondering if I chose the wrong name. It’s so difficult to think when you’re pregnant, and I feel like I felt rushed. Her name is Juliana. I liked it initially because it’s uncommon and it’s very feminine.
“Since she’s almost a year old I feel it’s too late to consider other options, but maybe you all can give me some reassurance or alternate nicknames that I like. I like ‘Lana’ and ‘Liana’, but I wonder if they’re too far of a stretch. I also don’t want her to go as her middle name.”
The mum asked for advice from commenters on Reddit, who tried to reassure her that Juliana is a “beautiful” name for her little girl and she shouldn’t feel regret over it.
One person said: “Juliana is a wonderful name. It’s a real name, with a logical spelling. It’s classic and well known, but not trendy or over used. It sounds pretty.”
And another added: “Juliana is a beautiful and not uncommon name at all! Very classic, and feminine! Eventually her friends will give her a nn such as Jules, Julie, etc. so you may have to come to terms with that but overall beautiful name!”
