A woman who travelled to Tenerife to get some winter sun with her family was left sorely disappointed. Georgia took to TikTok to share a video explaining her and her family’s disappointment after arriving at one of the Canary Islands. Speaking to the camera she says: “Tell me where the sun is. This is the weather currently.” The camera then turns around to show the view from her balcony. The sky is full of grey clouds and the weather looks depressingly overcast.

She added: “It is freezing. We are meant to have thunderstorms today and I packed a whole wardrobe as if it was like 30 degrees. It is currently 20 degrees and I have no cardigans, no jumpers. I need answers from the Tenerife government.” The winter months in Tenerife enjoy temperatures between 23C and 21C.

One expat in Tenerife has revealed what the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands is actually like in December. The car rental owner has lived on the island for 10 years and said he keeps being asked exactly how busy it is there, so he decided to share a video to reveal the truth. Posting on TikTok as Theknightstrider1 he filmed the view as he walked along the beachside promenade at Playa de Las Vistas between Las Americas and Los Cristianos. Viewers could see the tiled path lined with hotels, shops and restaurants on one side and palm trees on the other. Revealing just one tiny whisp of a cloud in the blue sky, there were people walking along in shorts, T-shirts and sunglasses as he provided his commentary.

“I would say Tenerife at the moment is definitely busier than last year and very, very vibrant,” he said as he gave an example of what the crowds were like: “Just struggled to get a taxi there on the Golden Mile so I’m walking home. I couldn’t get a taxi, that’s how busy the taxis are,” he added.

He also explained what the situation was like for those wanting to eat out. “The bars, restaurants – all very vibrant. The beginning of December historically used to be a bit quieter but it’s actually very vibrant and busy. So in terms of crowd levels – steady. So if you are interested in particular bars/restaurants I would make a reservation if there’s a particular restaurant you want to go to and you’re going to be eating at peak time between seven and 10pm. Make sure you make a reservation just to be on the safe side,” he advised prospective tourists, adding: “They do get busy – the bars and restaurants – especially in the winter.”
