A tipster who famously predicted the 50-1 Grand National victory in 2022 has shared his selections for this year’s race. The Grand National, first run in 1839, is a crown jewel of British racing.

Renowned for its rich history and prestige as the ultimate test of endurance over four miles, two-and-half furlongs and 30 daunting fences at Aintree, where legends like Red Rum, with his record three wins in the 1970s, have etched their names into folklore.

Punters will be eager to see if X user @MaxRacingTips can repeat his magic from three years ago, where he stunned the racing world by tipping Noble Yeats to win at 50-1. Now, he has turned his attention to the 2025 Grand National, naming Perceval Legallois and Vanillier as his top contenders.

Following Noble Yeats’s shock win in 2022, @MaxRacingTips’ post went viral, as punters celebrated their winnings. One follower shared a betting slip showing a £20 each-way bet on Noble Yeats that returned £620, while others flooded the replies with praise, with comments like “You beauty” and “F****** unreal.”

Perceval Legallois, priced at 10-1, is trained by Gavin Cromwell, a man who has enjoyed a stellar season with victories in major races like the Kerry National with Flooring Porter and the Cheltenham Gold Cup with Inothewayurthinkin.

Cromwell, who is yet to win the Grand National, has three strong contenders this year, but Perceval Legallois is among the most fancied.

The seven-year-old, set to carry 10st 12lb with Mark Walsh in the saddle, has shown promise in competitive handicaps and is well-suited to the marathon distance. Cromwell recently told the Racing Post: “We have three great chances, and I genuinely can’t split them. They all bring something different to the table.”

Pundit Kevin Blake of Betfair echoed this sentiment, describing Perceval Legallois as “a horse with the perfect profile for Aintree.”

Vanillier, at 18-1, is another Cromwell runner with a strong case. The grey, owned by Mrs. H. M. Keaveney, finished a gallant second in the 2023 Grand National and returns for his third attempt at the race.

Known for his stamina, Vanillier could thrive if the forecasted rain softens the ground. “Vanillier’s form over long distances is rock-solid, and he’s a live contender,” Blake said.

Cromwell’s hunger for a first Grand National triumph adds further intrigue to both horses’ chances. And with last year’s winner, I Am Maximus, heading a strong Irish challenge, the 2025 Grand National is shaping up to be a cracker.
