Supermarket chain Waitrose has released an unusually-shaped chocolate Easter egg, and while many agree it looks amazing, some say the it’s a ‘little bit overpriced’

A food reviewer tried an unusually-shaped Easter egg from Waitrose, but the price raised some eyebrows.

Billy, known as Big Daddy B on social media, is a creator at Food Review Club, the UK’s number one food reviewer. He often tries out new foods and shares simple recipes.

Earlier this month, he taste tested an Easter egg from Waitrose with an unusual shape – it looks like a croissant. Made with luxurious blonde chocolate. The price of the indulgent treat is £15 and Billy gave his verdict on it in an Instagram post.

Speaking in the reel, he said: “Trying the viral chocolate croissant egg from Waitrose Episode. These have literally just hit the streets and priced at £15. It’s a blonde chocolate shaped croissant with milk chocolate crumbs and drizzle, nothing in the middle so let’s talk about the chocolate.”

He described it as “some of the best blonde chocolate I’ve tried.” Billy branded it as “banging”, praising it for being “so creamy, so indulgent, so well balanced.”

The food reviewer also said the chocolate is “nice and thick” and “super rich” with the milk chocolate crumbs giving the ‘egg’ a “bit of crunch and texture to it.” He shared his verdict: “Overall I think this tastes amazing.”

However, he admitted that he thinks it’s a “little bit overpriced for what it is but the quality is there for sure.” He rated the chocolate croissant Easter egg a “whopping 8.9 out of 10.”

The supermarket says it’s No.1 The Chocolate Croissant is a “grown-up Easter treat, beautifully made in luxuriously creamy blonde chocolate with crunchy little pieces of biscuit.” It is hollow white chocolate with caramelised sugar, feuilletine wafer and caramel pieces, decorated with milk chocolate and milk chocolate vermicelli.”

Billy’s Instagram reel, uploaded on February 2, has amassed 589,000 views, 6,233 likes and plenty of comments. One user expressed their confusion at the croissant shape: “What has a croissant got to do with Easter though? Not sure I get the connection?

“Surely if they were going to do something a bit different they should have stuck to the Easter theme, maybe do a chick, bunny, heck a carrot for the bunny even. But a croissant?!”

They further commented on the price: “And £15!!! There’s no Waitrose near me but even if there was, I wouldn’t be tempted to part with £15 for any chocolate egg to be honest. Especially a croissant!”

Another agreed with the cost of the chocolate egg: “£15 is a bit steep for that even for Waitrose.” A third user added: “This looks unreal but I just can’t get with the idea of an Easter ‘egg’ being anything but the shape of an egg or do I need to get with the times.”

Others had some positive remarks on the chocolate treat, including “need to try this, looks great” and “oh wow this looks amazing!”. A spokesperson for Waitrose said: “Undoubtedly the pièce de résistance of our Easter range, we’ve combined online trends of hybrid croissants and all-things oversized in this luxurious and extra-large blonde chocolate creation, which has already been hugely popular with our customers.”
