Our Girl star Michelle, 37, and former TOWIE star Mark Wright, 38, announced the arrival of their daughter on Instagram today (March 12) – and someone online admitted they wanted the same baby name

Many people were overjoyed to hear that news that Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright welcomed their first child today (March 12).

Our Girl star Michelle, 37, and former TOWIE star Mark Wright, 38, announced the news on Instagram. Michelle shared a photo of their new daughter, tagging her husband as she wrote: “Together we have a new love to share… our little girl. Palma Elizabeth Wright.”

The pair revealed that little Palma had been born last Tuesday on March 6th, and people were quick to congratulate them as the post racked up more than 500,000 likes.

“Huge congratulations to you all,” said celeb pal Giovanna Fletcher, while Mark’s former TOWIE co-star Billie Shepherd added: “Huge congratulations to you all, so beautiful, sending you all lots of love.”

Mark’s mum Carol Wright also added: “So so precious, Nana and granddad adore you.”

Since the announcement, many people have been searching the meaning of the name Palma. According to Nameberry, it is a girl’s name of Latin origin meaning “palm”. A post on its website reads: “Palma is an appealing Latin name that’s both geographical – it’s the romantic city on the Spanish island of Majorca – and botanical, relating to the palm frond. Sometimes given to girls born on Palm Sunday, it appeared in the US Top 1000 in the early 20th century. Its elaborated form is Palmina.”

Reddit forums where people discussed the name have also been unearthed since the news, with one person admitting they wanted to call their baby Palma, but ‘didn’t know what people would think’.

They said: “I came across this name the other week and I like how sweet and simple it is. I like the meaning of palm tree/palm leaf as well. Then this morning I saw someone online saying they don’t like it and asking for alternatives (for them it’s an honour name.)

“Anyways, I’d never heard it until recently and am curious what you all think of it, what your associations are with it, etc. Have you known a Palma?”

Many people said they’d only heard of the name due to the Spanish location, and some said they weren’t a fan. However, others were all for it. “I like it. Spanish speaker here. It’s pretty, I also like Perla.” While another added: “I recently came across it too and love it.”

A third chimed in: “One of my best friends from Sicily is named Palma and I love it very much partly because of what a great person she is, but in my opinion it’s a great name!” While a fourth added: “My ballet teacher was named Palma. It suited her!”

We’re sure the views will go down well with Mark and former Coronation Street star Michelle, who announced that they were expecting three months ago.

The pair announced their happy news by sharing a sun-soaked snap of themselves on the beach of a Spanish island with Michelle’s baby bump proudly on display.

In another joint post, they wrote in December: “2025 is going to be a special one for us… [baby emoji. love heart emoji].” In the gorgeous Michelle could be seen holding her baby bump as Mark lovingly looked on.
