If you’ve been spiralling since we said spider season you don’t have to worry much – one cleaning guru has found an epic way to deter creepy crawlies this autumn

There’s no getting around the fact that it’s spider season – but luckily there’s a sure-fire way to get battle-ready against the scary critters.

Spider season in the UK falls between early September and October, instead of adding layers of clothing spiders seek their way inside homes to take shelter from the cooling weather.

If you’ve been spiralling since we said spider season you don’t have to worry much – although spiders in the UK can bite they are not like their cousins in Australia and aren’t poisonous. According to The Countryside Charity and the Natural History Museum, “out of the hundreds of UK spider species, only 12 can give us a nip at all – and only two or three of these would give a painful bite.”

There is a way to tackle these eight-legged-creatures if they have made a home of your home this autumn according to one cleaning expert on TikTok and the solution is simple. The TikTokkers’ hack not only keeps spiders at bay but also gives your windows a gleaming, streak-free shine as well.

Lifestyle influencer Chantel Mila, also known as @mama_mila, says that you can stop spiders and other bugs from entering your home by making use of a few staple cleaning products on your windows. The influencer, who has over 1.5 million followers, frequently shares cleaning tips and tricks.

Her window-cleaning video has got people’s eyes glued to the screens. In the video’s caption, she said: “Make your windows sparkle (& say goodbye to bugs + spiders entering your home!”

All you need to make this homemade streak-free window cleaner is to combine four cups of warm water, two cups of white vinegar and a quarter cup of washing-up liquid in a bowl, giving it a gentle stir to combine everything. The key and most important ingredient is to add a few drops of peppermint oil to the mix – which flies, spiders, ticks and even rats and mice are said to hate the smell of.

Once you’ve mixed up this potion it’s time to give your windows a good clean using a microfibre cloth or sponge. Chantel says the mixture “cuts through tough grime and dirt,” whilst the aroma of the peppermint will help to drive pests away.

The cleaning wizard also suggested using a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and warm water on the inside of your windows since there’s likely less dirt here – but it’ll still make them shine. That’s one less thing to worry about.
