Not all guests around your Christmas table will like Christmas pudding, so Iceland have a few alternatives for this festive season
We always have to buy two desserts for December 25 as there is always a fussy one who doesn’t like the deep, rich flavours of Christmas pudding. Not that I am really complaining, because it means there is always enough for seconds.
As always, Iceland has a number of festive treats you could happily serve up to people who shun tradition, and I have two recommendations. If you are looking for a fresh and light pudding after a heavy Christmas roast then the Luxury Ultimate Raspberry & Vanilla Macaron Wreath, priced at £10, is perfect.
You simply need to defrost and it is ready to go. I was worried about how it would look, but was surprised to find it looked stunning, despite being in the freezer. The lovely sweetness of the meringue was cut through the delicious sharpness of the berries and the coulis.
Paired with a little cream, I think this is a delightful dessert and a great alternative to offer throughout Christmas. I would say this is one that you need to eat on the day of defrosting as while the meringue base held up well, the macarons did become a little soft the next day – but it is rare to have left over dessert, right?
But if you are looking for something to please the fussy kids, the Luxury White Chocolate Melting Snowman for £8 is a fun choice. After removing the snowman’s scarf you can pop him in the microwave and watch his spin around as you wait for his head to melt.
My little one loved doing this and we had a countdown when there was 10 seconds left. You can then ceremoniously cut open the snowman to reveal a wonderfully light sponge pudding with a hot caramel sauce fountain melting from the centre.
And while you may be thinking this is a great kids dessert, do not limit yourself, the sponge is light with a rich dark sugar flavouring. The gooey caramel helps to keep it moist and yes, I can confirm, it goes well with custard.
This is a real showstopper for the kids, and big kids, and perfect if dried fruit puddings are not their thing. Iceland’s luxury dessert range for Christmas is available in store and online now.
