Brits who have travelled to Turkey in September have been left disappointed as they were greeted by torrential rain and thunderstorms, with one saying “I’m in tears”

The buzz of jetting off for a sun-drenched escapade faded into frustration for many jet-setters heading for Turkey.

Holidaymakers fantasising about basking under the Turkish sun, with chilled cocktails and pool lounging in Marmaris, were met with an unanticipated turn. According to TikTok user @marmarislovers, the famously bright hotspot has been hit by unyielding rainfall this month.

Brits eager for a golden glow have been left feeling short-changed by the unexpected weather curveball. A viral clip shared by the user paints a grim view with the forecast sounding like bad news: “Heavy rain and thunder for two days coming then three days nice weather, and another three days of storm Marmaris.”

The video exposes the rainy onslaught forcing holidaygoers to swap their bikinis for waterproofs, reports the Daily Record. Further updates from the account showcase scenes that resemble a torrential downpour: a raging Dalaman Airport, flooded avenues in Marmaris, and empty hotels and taverns a far cry from their normally thriving atmosphere.

Spectators claiming “winter season has arrived early” are in shock, as this is far from what’s expected during September. Ordinarily an ideal period to tour Marmaris, the gloomy weather has caught travellers by surprise.

Sun-seekers should remember that travel connoisseurs normally suggest visiting Marmaris anytime between June and September, with July often delivering scorching averages of 35C.

September typically promises average highs of 32C, cooling to a pleasant 22C at night. The video of the unexpected weather conditions in Turkey has gone viral, amassing over 2,000 views, and leaving viewers gobsmacked. Stormy scenes like this are an unusual sight for Brits accustomed to sunny holidays in destinations like Turkey.

One viewer said with relief: “Thank God I’m arriving on the 26th September. Better not rain while I’m there.” Someone else relayed their own experience: “Fethiye same. Thunder, lightning and torrential rain.”

Meanwhile, another individual chimed in stating: “It’s always a risk at the end of summer.”

Yet, some holiday-goers in other parts of Turkey have reported enjoying better weather conditions. One traveller mentioned: “We only had one evening of this torrential rain.” Another added: “Am here now. Rained one day. Now el schorchio.” Moreover, there was a person who actually welcomed the heavy rainfall, commenting: “Love it when it pours with rain in Marmaris.”
