A young woman has spilled the beans on her unique living arrangement with a man 51 years her senior.

Sharing a home can be a blast or a total disaster. Sometimes we end up bunking with someone we’ve barely met, maybe through work or friends of friends. Or perhaps you move in with a mate, thinking it’ll be all fun and games, only to discover their true colours once you’re sharing a space.

With housemates, you can split the rent and bills, which is a godsend given today’s financial crunch. Ella Wilson, a 22 year old globetrotter, was on the hunt for a flatmate – and six months back, she took the plunge and moved in with a 73 year old bloke she didn’t know from Adam.

Taking to TikTok, she’s been dishing out clips about her life with her new roomie, David Cox. Initially wary, Ella admits she had “a good gut feeling” about the setup and even her family were cool with it, not fretting over her decision.

Ella has since dubbed David as the “best housemate ever”. The adventurous Brit, Ella, settled down with retiree David in Sydney, Australia, in September 2024, after trekking across the country. She reckons the top perk of cohabiting with him is helping him stay spry.

The duo recently nailed a 5K run together, and Ella posted an adorable video of them crossing the finish line side by side. She recounted: “Six months ago I moved in a random 73-year-old man. We went on a few runs together. He couldn’t do more than about a kilometre with literally looking like he was going to keel over and die. Six months later, we’ve achieved a lot of things together, but today was our first five kilometre park run.”

She continued: “We put on our matching trainers and off we went and oh, actually, David overslept so he was very unprepared for this. It amazes me how fit and active this man is, he’s honestly incredible.

“I feel like we’ve been leading up to this moment for quite a while now and we randomly decided to for it today so here we are. So here we are about to set off on our 5K run.”

Ella was astounded by her housemate’s performance, saying: “He’s not even breaking a sweat.”

The unique bond between the two has warmed the hearts of many. One person commented: “Your friendship needs to be turned into a book or movie. 10/10 would recommend!” Another remarked: “You are adding years to his life.”

Another admirer said: “I absolutely adore your connection and vibrancy. I thank you for finding each other and sharing your adventures with us, it’s so refreshing to watch you guys.”

Echoing the sentiment, someone else wrote: “He smashed it, you’re adding years to his life and he’s adding all his knowledge and experience to yours.”

And another added: “This man has gained a granddaughter.”

In the meantime, another fan penned: “I absolutely adore your connection and vibrancy, thank you for finding each other and sharing your adventures with us, it’s so refreshing to watch you guys.”
