I’m A Celebrity winner Sam Thompson has shared that he watched pal Pete Wicks’ latest Strictly Come Dancing routine whilst on his way to Australia to work on the ITV show
Reigning I’m A Celebrity winner Sam Thompson has said he called Pete Wicks on his way to Australia this weekend to discuss his pal’s latest routine on Strictly Come Dancing.
Sam, 32, has flown out to Brisbane for the new series of the ITV show with his colleagues Joel Dommett, 39, and Kemi Rodgers, 29. The trio will host companion show Unpacked together once the campmates have entered the jungle.
It’s been revealed that during a layover, believed to have been in Singapore, Sam spoke to his close pal Pete, 36, who is among the contestants on this year’s Strictly. He has been partnered with Jowita Przystał, 30, for the BBC show.
Pete and professional dancer Jowita performed a couple’s choice routine on Saturday to the Nicotine Dolls’ cover of the Best. The performance is said to have been in tribute to his late grandmother Doreen, who passed away in 2022. They received a combined score of 36 from the judges, with head judge Shirley Ballas even awarding a 10 for the routine.
Speaking about it, Sam told the Daily Mail: “I called Pete when I was in the layover. He smashed his dance – I watched it on the flight, it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. He deserved that ten from Shirley.” Sam – who also works alongside Pete as a host of the podcast Staying Relevant – added that his close pal’s performance was “so beautiful”.
Sam had already shared his pride over the performance in posts on his Instagram Story whilst on his way to Australia. Alongside a clip of him celebrating, he wrote: “I found WiFi on the flight to send this message. You’re an inspiration and the nation is getting to see the real you.” He later added in a separate post: “So proud of you mate. You’re [nan] would be so proud.”
The former Made in Chelsea star – who himself won I’m A Celebrity last year – landed at Brisbane Airport on Sunday. He’s thought to have been onboard a flight that delayed landing due to a thunderstorm. Rumoured campmate and McFly member Danny Jones, 38, who arrived around the same time, is said to have been on the same flight as Sam.
Danny is among the rumoured line-up for the new series of I’m A Celebrity and was photographed at Brisbane Airport following his arrival. He was seen wearing an Oasis t-shirt, dark trousers and a pair of white shoes at the airport.
Sam instead opted to wear a blue t-shirt, cream pants and white trainers for the journey. He was seen with a hoodie around his waist and a backpack on after disembarking the plane. The reality TV star had two suitcases with him.
