Spring may not have arrived just yet, but it definitely is close, and with the new season comes a surge of dopamine fashion trends to lift us from the winter blues

If the runways from New York and London Fashion Week have shown us anything, it’s that olive green is destined to be the colour of spring this year.

With the return of spring comes the new seasonal colour palette ready to inject dopamine into our everyday dressing. Celebrities were seen wearing chic olive green coats at the Burberry Winter 2025 show during London Fashion Week, while mossy greens took over the Gucci runway in the form of mini-dresses and statement accessories. Confirming that olive green is the new neutral to rid us of the winter blues.

Olive green is a fantastic choice for adding a pop of colour to a monochromatic outfit due to its simplicity. It’s not too overpowering making it easy to style with your wardrobe staples. Additionally, it is an excellent trans-seasonal colour, meaning you’re not just buying into a trend, but investing in versatile garments that will remain relevant throughout various trends and seasons.

If you’re not quite ready to fully embrace the leafy green colour, consider incorporating it through subtle accessories. An olive green silk scarf makes a perfect addition to any outfit. Try wrapping it around your neck over your favourite crew neck knit for a classic look, or tie it to a crossbody bag to instantly elevate your outfit.

For those who prefer a bolder approach, an olive green chunky knit sweater paired with straight-leg denim and classic loafers creates an effortlessly chic and refined outfit. Alternatively, try styling a tiered khaki maxi skirt with a white blouse and brown boots to lean into the boho-chic aesthetic without overdoing it.

This January alone, “olive green” reached a record number of searches in the apparel category, according to Google Trends. Additionally, “olive green coat for women” was a trending Google search in the UK over the past 30 days.

Many influencers and celebrities alike have already started embracing the trend, with Gwyneth Paltrow recently stepping out in a show-stopping olive green coat, which was paired so effortlessly with some denim and a crew-neck knit. While, model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss has been a long-time fan of khaki green utility jackets for spring.

British fashion designer Kitty Joseph tells the Mirror: “Colour is always my starting point as a designer, and olive green is recurring in my palettes. Green is one of my favourite colours to work with and also dress myself in, and it’s not surprising we gravitate toward the earthiness of olive green particularly. It’s a shade that returns in cycles, in nature as it does in fashion. It’s one of the focal colours of our bestselling Mineral Skirt.”

She continues: “Olive green is versatile as it can contrast, complement or blend with so many other shades. I see it as a solid, complementary base to style with different colours in your wardrobe. Pair an olive suit with fuschia heels or a bag, and you have a joyful colour pop. Or blend it subtly by layering up earthy shades of sand, cream and gold accessories with our Mineral skirt and Top, and you have a calming, sophisticated and casual look.”

Kitty adds, “Investing in some quality olive green wardrobe basics means you have a base palette to work with that can adapt to your wardrobe over time, sustainably. One thing’s for sure: green always returns, and when it does – you’ll be ready!”
