Volodymyr Zelensky posted a classy message thanking the American people shortly after the cowardly and shameful bullying he endured from Donald Trump and JV Vance in front of the world’s cameras
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has posted a graceful message despite the horrendous bullying he endured in the Oval Office.
Mr Zelensky was hounded by Donald Trump and sidekick JD Vance in appalling scenes at the White House. Despite the shocking treatment in front of the world’s cameras, he broke his silence to thank the US, and even Trump.
He wrote on Twitter/X: “Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit. Thank you (President Trump), Congress, and the American people. Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.”
In an incredible intervention which has caused jubilation in Moscow, Trump posted a statement accusing the Ukrainian President of disrespecting the US. The Putin apologist’s actions have been met with disbelief and condemnation across the globe.
Labour minister Douglas Alexander was the first UK Government figure to speak out, warning the world is now in “dangerous and uncharted waters”. He said only Putin would benefit from division in the West.
The cowardly US commander-in-chief wrote: “He disrespected the United States of American in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace.”
The sickening scenes – which saw Trump tell Mr Zelensky he did not “hold the cards” – were praised in the Kremlin. Former Russian President and Putin ally Dmitry Medvedev wrote: “The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office.
“And (Donald Trump) is right: The Kiev regime is ‘gambling with WWIII.” John Bolton, an ex-US ambassador to the United Nations, said: “This puts Trump and Vance on the side of the Russians.” He went on: “We are in danger of losing every alliance we have in the world.”
In fiery exchanges in the Oval Office, Trump berated Mr Zelensky, telling him he “didn’t have the cards” to win the war without the United States. And he issued Ukraine’s President with an ultimatum: “You either make a deal, or we’re out.”
But Mr Zelensky warned Trump promises of peace from Vladimir Putin could not be trusted. He called the Russian leader a killer and a terrorist and told Trump there should be “no compromises with a killer.”
Mr Zelensky was expected to sign a deal when he visited the White House today on sharing Ukraine ‘s mineral resources. While it started cordially, the tone of the meeting soon turned hostile, with Trump accusing Zelensky of being “disrespectful” for pushing for security guarantees. Mr Zelensky warned the US would “feel it in the future” if it did not continue to support Ukraine.
“Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. We’re trying to solve a problem,” Mr Trump hit back. “Because you’re in no position to dictate that. We’re going to feel very good and very strong.”
Ukrainian ambassador to the US Oksana Markarova was seen holding back tears as the Republican duo rounded on Mr Zelensky. Trump’s behaviour appears to have thrown out hopes that a peace deal to end the war started by Vladimir Putin can be reached.
Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey said: “This is thuggery from Trump and Vance, plain and simple. They are bullying the brave true patriot Zelensky into accepting a deal which effectively hands victory to Russia. Unless the UK and Europe step up, we are facing a betrayal of Ukraine.”
