Air hostess Cierra Mistt has given two key tips for travellers fed up with being cramped up in economy class on how they can get a free upgrade and kick back in first class

Travellers fed up with being cramped up in economy class have been given two tips by an air hostess of how to get an upgrade.

The opportunity to spread out on a flight in first class is only a dream for many people due to the usually much higher costs of the luxury. But by following a couple of tactics you too could enjoy early boarding and be sipping champagne while the rest of the travellers slowly trudge onto the plane, says an insider. TikToker and air hostess Cierra Mistt has shared the tricks of the trade to get an upgrade and they are not what would immediately would come to mind for some people.

People have heard that by dressing more smartly could put you in line for an upgrade but Cierra gives two other ways that could give you a chance of success. The first is booking a seat on the last row of a plane and this is down to “weight and balance” on the flight. “You might be thinking that sounds a little weird. But let me tell you why,” she said. “On flights that are full, we normally have to move passengers for weight and balance purposes.

“And when we do that, it’s normally come back to the front. And if that’s the case, the flight attendants are gonna choose the people in that very last row to go up front because then they can sit down there after doing their service because it’s a lot more comfy to sit in those passenger seats than it is the jump seat. But if you’re watching this, keep this on the down low because we’re literally not supposed to be sitting in those seats.” And on to the second tip which has a 99 percent chance of success if your flight is full, she claims.

“Nowadays, you’ll know if your flight is full and even overbooked because the gate agents will normally make an announcement at the beginning telling you that it’s overbooked and that they need volunteers,” she said. “They’ll normally start really low at like $200 to $500 as an airport voucher. Here’s what you do instead. First go to the gate agent. Second, give them a price and say that you want that in cash. Last, but not least, when the gate agent is rebooking you for that next flight, make sure that they put you in first class to compensate for your time that you’re losing because you had to get kicked from that flight.” And many people on TikTok have been impressed with the tips with one person saying: “I picked the last seats for a trip to Amsterdam and was moved to business class and had 4 seats to myself…both ways!!” Another said: “You can get cash instead of a voucher?” And Cierra replied: “Sure can – it’s in the policy.”
