An EasyJet flight attendant has revealed the key reason why people should avoid eating directly off the tray table on planes. This tip ensures better hygiene during your flight

One flight attendant has revealed why people should avoid eating off the tray table on planes.

Many Brits will be jetting off abroad in the coming months as things begin to cool down ahead during autumn and winter. Some may be tempted to an in-flight meal purchased on the plane or in an airport shop beforehand, but a flight attendant has warned us all not to lapse into one grim habit.

The easyJet crew member said people should “never eat directly off the tray table” and even revealed the gross reasons behind the tip. “Attendants see so many people lay their heads, change their babies’ nappies and even have their feet on the tray tables,” she said according to the Express.

The crew member was responding to a survey by luxury membership platform, Velloy, which asked flight attendants from popular airlines such as TUI, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and easyJet to share their top tips for passengers. If people really want to use the trays, the attendant said it is a good idea to ask some of the in-flight crew to wipe down the surface for them or just hand the passenger an antibacterial wipe.

There are plenty of tips people can use when travelling on planes to make sure they have the best experience possible. TikToker and air hostess Cierra Mistt has shared the tricks of the trade to get an upgrade and they are not what would immediately would come to mind for some people.

People have heard that by dressing more smartly could put you in line for an upgrade but Cierra gives two other ways that could give you a chance of success. The first is booking a seat on the last row of a plane and this is down to “weight and balance” on the flight.

“You might be thinking that sounds a little weird. But let me tell you why,” she said. “On flights that are full, we normally have to move passengers for weight and balance purposes.

“And when we do that, it’s normally come back to the front. And if that’s the case, the flight attendants are gonna choose the people in that very last row to go up front because then they can sit down there after doing their service because it’s a lot more comfy to sit in those passenger seats than it is the jump seat. But if you’re watching this, keep this on the down low because we’re literally not supposed to be sitting in those seats.”

For the second tip, Cierra said: “Nowadays, you’ll know if your flight is full and even overbooked because the gate agents will normally make an announcement at the beginning telling you that it’s overbooked and that they need volunteers,” she said. “They’ll normally start really low at like $200 to $500 as an airport voucher. Here’s what you do instead. First go to the gate agent. Second, give them a price and say that you want that in cash. Last, but not least, when the gate agent is rebooking you for that next flight, make sure that they put you in first class to compensate for your time that you’re losing because you had to get kicked from that flight.”
