An airline pilot has advised passengers not to be shy when they step foot in the cabin – as asking a key question during boarding can really improve your flight
You don’t need to be a pilot to enter the cockpit of a plane. If you ask the right question at the correct time, you can get access to the mysterious part of the aircraft.
According to a pilot, the best time to make your request is when you’re boarding. The key is to be polite and ask your flight attendant if you can visit.
With any luck, they’ll then find a good time for you to chat with those flying the aircraft. You may even be able to snap a few photos or sit in the seats when you get there.
The American TikToker explained: “As an airline pilot, the one thing that customers under-mine the most is the ability to come up and talk to flight crew. If you’ve ever wanted to see inside of a cockpit, talk to the pilot and ask questions or talk about flying, all you have to do is ask the flight attendant. I would say nine out of 10 times we’re more than happy to talk to people and show them these things.”
As well as being courteous, make sure you are patient. The pilot added: “Of course, it might not happen in the very moment you ask, as we may be a little busy. You may have to wait until later on in the boarding process or once we arrive at the final destination.”
You may wonder why the crew takes so much time and effort answering all these questions. But according to the pilot, anyone who loves their job will be happy to talk if they’re not in a hurry.
He added: “I personally love it when someone comes up and they just want to see what’s going on… We love to share what we do.”
People were grateful for the advice and took to the TikTok comments section to say they’d be trying the hack out for themselves. One said: “Definitely gonna try to get a little experience with my son next month.” And another gushed: “Stop that’s the cutest freaking thing ever.”
