American TikTok user @kjordyyy visited Manchester for the first time and shared his experience in a video – and he was amazed by the city and its people saying he should’ve gone sooner
Manchester locals know their city is friendly with a great vibe, but how do outsiders view Mancunians?
TikTok user @kjordyyy recently visited for the first time and was taken aback by his experience, confirming the northern stereotype. He confessed: “I was not expecting this.” He filmed a video to share his “give observations of Manchester” noting firstly that “people are so much nicer” – though he didn’t clarify compared to where.
“Going to coffee shops and the people are calling me love,” he enthused. While this might be normal for those born and raised here, it could be a delightful surprise for visitors. “People are stopping on the street and smiling,” he revealed, strolling down Market Street, surprised to hear music playing. He filmed a van blasting tunes, commenting: “In the middle of the city bro”, something Mancunians are familiar with given the lively nature of the road.
“Everyone’s dancing, everyone’s vibing,” he observed, describing the accent as “absolutely mental”, and refusing to mimic it after being ridiculed for attempting a Welsh accent in an earlier video.
Upon seeing the tram, he was astounded, claiming it felt like he wasn’t even in the UK. “I could definitely get used to this,” he complimented, while walking back up Market Street.
His astonishment continued when he spotted a “corn truck”, stopping to ask the vendor if he only sold corn and was captivated when the answer was yes – he couldn’t believe it.
While taking in the delights of Piccadilly Gardens’ street food, he expressed his newfound adoration for Manchester, saying: “Such a wholesome little vibe bro” and wishing he had visited “earlier” because he adored it there – especially the people.
He confirmed the cheerful stereotype about locals by exclaiming: “Northerners are as nice as people say they are, more present, it’s a hidden gem. Manchester, you have my heart”.
In response, beaming Mancunians filled the comment section with messages such as: “Manchester is the best city in the world FACT”, “Love Manchester,” with one expressing hometown pride: “I’m born and bred in Manchester, I don’t want to be anywhere else” and another chiming in: “Manchester is the best! My hometown”.
However, some noted that Manchester was “second only to Liverpool” and others pointed out that he’d only glimpsed the “seen the good side” of the city. Echoing this sentiment, one comment read: “When you see people fighting to get on the tram or you see a pigeon fighting your nan for her Greggs sausage roll,” accompanied by emojis of crying with laughter, before declaring that “Christmas is feral” in Manchester – which anyone who lives in Manchester will know is true.
