Enjoy a dip in a mushroom-shaped lido built back in the 1930s, all while soaking in some stunning countryside views.

2025 really is the year of dry robes and outdoor swimming. There appears to have been a sudden surge in Brits wanting to get into their Speedos and spend their weekends flailing around in freezing water, then trying to convince everyone around them it’s actually enjoyable.

If you’re in desperate need of an endorphin rush, or just want to see what the fuss is about, the UK has an array of outdoor lidos dotted across the nation. Yes, the dreary British weather might dampen the fun of it all – but on those rare occasions the sun comes out, it could actually be a rather pleasant experience.

Ilkley Lido, located in Bradford, West Yorkshire, attracts swathes of visitors in the warmer months – and has been a popular hotspot since the 1930s. Nestled in the Wharfe Valley, at the southern end of the Yorkshire Dales – this lido offers fantastic views over Ilkley Moor and has a charming seaside atmosphere year round.

TimeOut ranked the outdoor pool one of the best in the UK, highlighting its unusual mushroom shape. Designed for multiple use, this fungi-looking pool retains its water filtration system and original circular from the 30s and was categorised as a grade two listed building back in 2009.

“With amazing views over the surrounding moorland, it’s bustling with activity on the hotter days of the summer, with crowds flocking to make use of its picnic area, tennis courts, putting green and bowling green,” the publication said. “If the unheated lido is too chilly for you, there’s also a 25-metre indoor pool at Ilkley Lido.”

The outdoor pool (and the cafe for those much-needed post-swim cappuccinos) isn’t open all year round, and tends to run from May to September. It is advisable to contact the lido before turning up, as inclement weather may mean the area is shut, even in the warmer months.

From Monday-Fri, during the opening months, the lido can be accessed from 7.30am-8.30am and then 2pm-6pm. On weekends, opening hours are 10am-2pm.

According to Visit Bradford, an adult ticket will set you back £6.45, while those with a Bradford Leisure Card can get discounted entry at £3.20. Prices for Junior (3+) tickets are £.35 and £1.75 respectively, while senior entry is £3.35. Visitors can no longer book slots for the lido ahead of time.
