If you’re looking to take a staycation, you might want to consider this charming seaside town that boasts one of the UK’s most gorgeous coastlines.

It can be easy to overlook Britain’s abundance of stunning beaches, especially when compared with the allure of the Med. However, as over tourism becomes a growing problem in popular summer hotspots like Spain and Greece, it can be worth taking the time to appreciate natural beauty closer to home.

Cornwall is well known for its literary scenery and quintessential seaside towns. Even better, it also gets the best of the British weather, with average summer temperatures reaching highs of 20C – making it perfect for a lazy sun holiday. So, if you’re planning to spend some time in England’s southwest, you will want to check out the town of Bude. Aside from its rich maritime history and charming centre, the village lays claim to one of Britain’s best beaches – according to The Times.

Summerleaze Beach lies on the coast of Bude and boasts an expanse of soft golden sand, plentiful shells and deep blue water. Not to mention, its surrounding green hills and quaint cottages cement its place as one of the UK’s most beautiful coastal spots. Holidaymakers can lay out on the sand with a beach read or take a stroll along one of its many coastal walks. Alternatively, they can check out Bude Pool, the semi-natural seawater pool dating all the way back to the 1930s.

Adventure-seekers will also get their fix, as the beach offers many water activities for them to take part in. This includes surfing, kayaking and even stand up paddle boarding. Plus, it makes a perfect day out for dog owners. The beach is dog-friendly, which means you can play fetch across the wide sand bank and have a splash around in the water with your pup.

According to one TripAdvisor reviewer: “A fantastic wide beach with clean sand, clean sea, plenty of rocks and pools to climb and explore, and the addition of a sea pool which fills up at high tide and leaves calm water for kids to play in at low tide.”

They continued: “The beach is well supervised by lifeguards who are on the ball, and constantly supervising the strong currents that come with the big waves. There are plenty of places to buy body boards, wind breakers, buckets and spades, plus shops close by to buy food and drink.” As for the Bude itself, there are many attractions to keep tourists occupied. You can visit Bodmin Keep, an old military headquarters, or take a wander into the medieval Poundstock Guildhouse.

Nature enthusiasts will also be excited to discover that Bude offers more than just a beautiful beach. It is also in proximity to the Tamar Lakes, which are teeming with diverse flora. For those looking for a place to stay, you can book a hotel room from just £53. This makes it a great choice for holidaymakers on a budget.
