Mariah Carey, 55, has once again wowed fans with her age-defying looks and slim figure, but what’s her secret? We’ve taken a look at her fitness regime and strict diet
Mariah Carey has once again shown off her slim figure, with the pop sensation candid about her strict diet and fitness routine.
Just this week, the glamorous 55-year-old took to Instagram with new snaps that displayed her stunning figure as she donned a fitted black lace catsuit during a round of golf. Mariah turned heads by pairing her unconventional golf attire with high heels and her signature voluminous hair, cheekily captioning the post: “Reinventing golf attire.”
Fans flooded to the comments as one penned: “Mother is serving body!” A second declared: “Snatched!” while another asked: “Dang, Mariah… are you working out?” A third joked: “Are you British? Because your body is tea!”
Others praised Mariah’s seemingly eternal youthfulness, with one follower asking: “When are you gonna start aging?” A second added: “Let’s talk about how Mariah still looks 25!” with another commenting: “Seriously when are you gonna start aging.”
So, what’s the secret behind Mariah’s toned figure? According to US Weekly, she works out three times a week. There is thought to be plenty of cardio, including aerobic exercises, which include stretching and strength training routines. Not to mention the workouts she gets when she’s performing on stage.
And it doesn’t look like Mariah is a gym-goer. While talking about the secret behind her effortless photos, she gave another peek into her lifestyle. Confessing that it’s all about the light, she said: “I can’t with the overhead lighting. Why do they do it to us?” while on the Las Culturistas podcast. The pop queen added: “I shouldn’t say ‘us,’ it’s not ‘us.’ It’s me. I’m the one who’s the most tortured by the hideous lighting in every elevator, doorway, gym – not that I go to the gym, but I’m just saying, it’s hideous lighting!”
The star has been open about her strict diet, even though she acknowledges they may not be everyone’s cup of tea. “It’s really hard. My diet, you would hate it,” she confessed to E! News in 2016. “All you eat is Norwegian salmon and capers every day. That’s it. I’m actually serious… I try to stick with the proteins. It’s the worst.”
Sharing a further glimpse into her diet, a source close to Mariah previously told Hollywood Life: “Mariah loves smoked salmon and capers, so she eats a lot of that lean protein, but the secret to her success has been the one thing that she cut out almost completely, and that is processed sugar.
“She has cut out chocolate and other sweets, and when she has cravings, she eats little pieces of fruit, like some blueberries or mangos. She is working out regularly and eating clean, whole foods with a focus on vegetables. She has also cut out carbs and bread.”
The ‘Songbird Supreme’, as the singer is affectionately known, has also shared insights into her body transformation following the birth of her twins, Monroe and Moroccan, with former husband Nick Cannon in 2011. She once revealed: “I learned a lot from being pregnant and watching my body change.” She emphasised that keeping her slim frame is “90 per cent diet.”
After welcoming her children, she reportedly enlisted help from a dietitian to ensure she stuck to 1,500 calories a day and opted for multiple smaller meals throughout the day rather than three large meals. Mariah also doesn’t weigh herself to determine how she feels. Instead, she told US Weekly: “[I’d ask myself] does this dress fit better than it did three years ago? Then I’d be like, ‘OK, I’m good!'”
