A woman has taken to social media to share her disgusted over her cousin’s baby name – and Reddit users agree it is better suited to a pet dog than a human

A woman has slammed her cousin for giving her son a name that could easily be mistaken for a children’s ‘cartoon character’.

She claims the moniker is especially unfair when you learn their daughter’s name, which she says is a “normal” name that you wouldn’t bat an eyelid at.

Taking to Reddit’s tragedeigh thread, the online term used to describe “a given name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is.”, she said: “My mum’s cousin named her child Boots and I can’t stop thinking about it.

“It’s been years since I’ve seen these family members, but I was watching a video and it reminded me. She named her son Boots, and everyone in the family was talking about how cute it was because his sisters nickname is Hatty (her name is Harriet.)”

Commenting on the moniker, one user said: “I was expecting his sister’s name to be Dora.” Another user joked: “That kid was made for walking. And that’s just what they’ll do…” A third user said: “You can name your kid anything and then have ‘boots’ as the nickname. What’s happening?” One more user added: “I like the name pantaloons.” While other users claim it’s a pet’s name, with one adding: “Boots was a dog on my dad’s side of the family” before another agreed: “That’s a cat’s name.”

It comes after another user called out their friend for wanting to give her daughter a “painfully cringey” name. They said: “My best friend recently found out she is having a girl. This is a dream come true for her. Her daughter’s room is fixed up gorgeous. My bestie is basking in her pregnancy glow and I love it for her.

“So last time I was over there, we started discussing her due date which is mid-July. She said she was thinking of July-based names. I warn you these are all cringe. Rubeigh, Jewelie, Dyeanah, or Liberteigh. I’m very worried for this poor innocent child who’s due in a little over three and a half months.”

In response, a woman who has an ‘unusual’ name, describing it as a ‘tragedeigh name’ due to its spelling, shared how it has impacted her throughout her life. She said: “I will let you know that as a child I wished my parents spelled it the ‘normal’ way.

“Now, I love my name, but that is only because I’m used to pretty much every person spelling it wrong, even when I tell them how to spell it, if it’s written on a legal document they are looking at, or if they have known me for years. I have to ignore it or I’d be upset every day of my life.”
