There’s a Co-op supermarket at Glastonbury Festival in Somerset and a shift manager at the store has spoken to the Mirror about serving customers at the five-day festival

The biggest-selling items at the massive Co-op supermarket on site at Glastonbury have been revealed.

The Mirror were granted a tour of the supermarket which took five days to build from scratch. Demi-Leigh Sparkes, the Co-op shift manager, has been with the supermarket for seven years.

And she said ICE was the biggest seller by far. She said: “Nearly every customer has got two or three bags in their hands.”

She said that the supermarket has 75 staff working over the course of the weekend, with the store opening at 7am and shutting at 3am. Fifty-thousand people will head there over the weekend. She added: “It is such a nice atmosphere to be working in…it’s without doubt the coolest Co-op in the country.”

As well as ice, the other biggest sellers include the fresh strawberries, the meal deals, toilet paper and water. The Co-op’s environmental drive ensures that there are no plastic water bottles sold, and the crisp packets are all made from recycled material.

One customer said: “I can’t tell you how handy it is having the supermarket on site. Everytime I go it’s absolutely heaving.”

This weekend Glastonbury sees headline performances from Dua Lipa, Coldplay and American R&B singer SZA, while country star Shania Twain will play the coveted Legends slot.

Dua Lipa is to headline the British festival for the first time when she takes to the stage in Somerset on Friday night. The 28-year-old is expected to treat revellers to a selection of her hit songs, including Houdini and Training Season from her third studio album, Radical Optimism, released earlier this year.

The British-Albanian singer, who took home the Brit Award for best pop act in March, said she was inspired by psychedelia, trip-hop, and Britpop styles when creating the new record.

Other acts include Squeeze will open the Pyramid Stage on Friday at midday, followed by rising star Olivia Dean, K-pop group Seventeen and singer Paul Heaton.
