If you’re looking for a hidden holiday gem without having to get on a plane, look no further than this hidden gem in the UK with beautiful beaches and cobbled streets
UK holidaymakers are obsessed with a “quaint and dreamy” British town they claim “looks like Greece”.
All of us need a break from the stress of working life now and again. While jetting off abroad could be the key to reducing this pressure, if you’re looking for a holiday closer to home, this could be the answer.
One travel fan was amazed after visiting a spot she has crowned as “the prettiest village in the UK”. Lana, who travels around the UK while living in her van, urges people to take a trip to Clovelly in north Devon.
Better known as @storky_adventures online, Lana shared: “I had a solo trip to this quaint and dreamy little place with the most picturesque scenery! It was like stepping back in time with no cars allowed and had a kind of a Greece feel to it with the cobbled streets, bright white houses, hanging flower baskets over looking a turquoise ocean.”
Lana also loved seeing donkeys at the top of the village, the stunning views, and tucking into a delicious afternoon tea. She noted that visiting the spot comes with a cost; you have to pay to enter the village as it has been privately owned since the Elizabethan days. Visitor fees cost around £8.75 per person.
Clovelly Court Gardens are a must see whilst visiting the famous village; you will find neat, carefully tended gardens and beautifully restored Victorian greenhouses. Visit the Kingley Museum or visit Mount Pleasant – the best picnic spot in the village.
There are also some lovely pubs, craft workshops to take park in as well shops with unique and handmade products. For beer fans, there is the Clovelly Brewery at the top of the beautiful village.
Lana warns that to get to the top and see all the amazing things that Clovelly has to offer, it is a bit of a walk. She said: “It’s on a steep cliff so be prepared for abit of a walk and don’t be like me and wear flip flops – which also broke so that was interesting on steep cobbled paths.”
Lana advises visiting the spot on a week day if you can, to avoid crowds. And others say they loved making the journey.
Commenting on Lana’s viral video, showing the village’s beauty, on individual said: “Beautiful Clovelly, worth the £9 per adult. Absolutely stunning the £9 ticket is valid for seven days so definitely worth it. Visited the garden too – bought a little plant.”
“I visited Clovelly some years ago, it’s lovely,” said another. “Been there, it’s lovely, honestly,” agreed another.
One Devon resident said: “Just moved to Devon and I can’t wait to visit these places.”
“Clovelly, prettiest village ever, been few times,” added another. And other wrote: “So beautiful, sometimes you would never think it’s in the UK.”
