Trump’s second stint as US president seems to be even more chaotic than his first, marked by sweeping deportation orders, attacks on judges, and wild tariff threats that rattle global markets

Since returning to office at the beginning of the year, Trump has shown a willingness to push boundaries in ways that go far beyond even the chaos of his first term – and we want to know if you think he’s more unhinged than ever.

In 2017–2021, he was often unpredictable, combative on Twitter (now known as X) and prone to policy-by-impulse. In his second term so far, his actions seem to have ramped up beyond belief.

The list of his more ‘out there’ moments this year are almost endless, including aggressive tariff threats, trying to stop babies born in the U.S to immigrant parents from getting citizenship and using the 230-year-old Alien Enemies Act to order mass deportations of Venezuelans accused of gang ties.

He’s also punished people connected to the International Criminal Court just for investigating the U.S or its allies and lashed out at judges who ruled against him.

In the past few days alone, the president has sparked backlash among scientists and medical regulators by claiming paracetamol caused babies to develop autism. His US administration advised women in the early stages of pregnancy to avoid taking the painkiller as he suggested “pills and vaccines” are behind a rise in cases. NHS guidelines insist it is the safest treatment for pain and high fever which if untreated, increase the risk of birth defects.

Elsewhere, Trump lied about his poll numbers during a speech at the UN general assembly, saying: “I was very proud to see I have the highest poll numbers I’ve ever had.” Trump’s average approval rating is currently in the low 40s. – that’s down from a healthy 50+ when he was first inaugurated. He remains the least popular president of all time at this point in his presidency.

As if that isn’t enough, he also told UN delegates their countries are “going to hell”. During his lengthy and tone-deaf attacks on immigration, Trump told delegates: “I’m really good at this stuff. Your countries are going to hell.”

Trump also declared climate change a “hoax”, urging Keir Starmer to open more oil fields in the North Sea. “Drill baby drill,” he declared, before telling delegates and observers that the Paris Climate Accord – to which almost all of them are signatories – was “fake.”

Despite all this, Trump’s second term hasn’t all been unhinged soundbites and questionable policies. Some big companies have moved more manufacturing and investment back to the U.S, which Trump says proves his trade pressure is working.

His lighter rules on AI and tech have boosted private investment in new technology, illegal border crossings are down, and he has made deporting criminal migrants a top priority.
