The full-time GP and ITV star took to social media to ‘put a myth to bed’ on Monday

Dr Amir Khan, a regular face on ITV, has been praised by many fans after telling “the truth” live on Monday’s Lorraine. The full-time GP, who is also known for his appearances on Good Morning Britain, took to Instagram after the show to share a clip.

The video showed Dr Amir joining host Lorraine Kelly in the studio via video link from his surgery. The topic at hand was “Should we put cancer warnings on alcohol? ”

On the show, Dr Amir told Lorraine: “The truth about alcohol, Lorraine, is that there is no safe level of alcohol to drink. Even those 14 unit limits recommended weekly by the NHS… it’s a compromise, but ideally no alcohol is better than some.”

He continued to debunk a common myth, as he stated: “Some people still believe that a small amount of red wine is good for your heart, and actually that was based on flawed research”. He clarified that newer studies have indicated “the risks of drinking even a small amount of red wine outweigh the benefits”.

Captioning the post, Dr Amir said: “Talking about alcohol today on @lorraine. There is no safe amount of alcohol to drink, it’s linked to many cancers and it’s a myth that a small amount of red wine is good for you. Here’s what you need to know, hope it’s useful xx”.

Fans have rushed to the comment section to express their gratitude and agreement, as one wrote: “Thank you Amir. Your advice is very much appreciated.” A second said: “Finally! Someone said it, alcohol is a poison and it has no real benefits”, and a third added: “So glad I gave it up. Feel better too. Don’t miss it any more.”
