Beauty writer Bethan has tried countless mascaras in her time and the Clinique High Impact Mascara is the only one she reaches for now

I’ve tried countless mascaras over the years, and had never really been married to a particular brand or product. However, over the last few months, one in particular has swooped me – and my lashes – off my feet, and it’s currently on sale at Boots.

Now, I’m certainly no beauty snob and I don’t believe that more expensive necessarily means better. I’ve tried plenty of budget-friendly mascaras and enjoyed a number of them, namely the 17 Extreme Extension Lengthening Mascara , which is an affordable £4 (even cheaper with a Boots advantage card). But on occasion, spending that bit extra on a product has paid off, which is definitely the case with my latest makeup bag gem.

The lash-lengthener in question is the Clinique High Impact Mascara, which would usually set shoppers back £25.50. But for a limited time, health and beauty retailer Boots is selling a gift set where you can pay for a full sized version of the product, and get a mini one completely free.

The Clinique High Impact Mascara Duo Gift Set is worth £38 , but is priced at £25.50 and allows shoppers to double up on the bestselling mascara. This means you could keep a full sized one at home and take the travel version on the go, or you could gift the mini version to a friend or family member to try out and see if they love it, too.

Initially, I’d have skipped this mascara as I’m typically a fan of a thin, comb like applicator, but Clinique’s is much thicker and bristlier. However, after giving it a chance, I was incredibly surprised, and it’s fast become my go-to mascara for every day. The wand delivers both length and volume, providing a bold and full look without clumping.

But the reason I love it so much is because it’s the only mascara I’ve ever used that doesn’t leave smudgy transfers under my eyes. I can wear it for hours on end and it does not flake or smudge, and at the end of the night, it’s super easy to remove with a cleansing balm, too.

And I’m not the only person who is loyal to the Clinique mascara, with more than 160 Boots shoppers giving it a 4.3 star rating overall. One said: “It’s very good I have sensitive eyes, that’s why I picked Clinique so I can wear mascara more often.”

Another added: “I am 65 years old and have used many different brands of mascara over the years. This is the best mascara I have ever used! Bought Black/Brown and the colour is perfect for me. The brush separates and lengthens with absolutely no clumping or spiky lashes. My go-to mascara from now on.”

Others were less impressed and would prefer a cheaper mascara, commenting: “I expected better results from Clinique. I can honestly say that drugstore mascara will probably do an identical job On the positive note it doesn’t smudge or flakes.”

Meanwhile, a fourth added: “Fantastic product, doesn’t clump, layers well, makes my eyelashes look a lot longer and thicker, though not waterproof (comes off easily without scrubbing with just warm water or baby wipe), does not run or smudge at all in the day. Used this for years as love it and would never change it.”

Another popular high end mascara is Victoria Beckam’s Vast Lash Mascara . Coming in at £32, the smudge-proof and volumising mascara is said to have some serious staying power, looking just as good after 12 hours as it did when first applied. One brand beloved for their mascara formulas is Benefit, but at £27 each, they can be pricy, however, I’ve found a great deal to get one for under £7. The Benefit Most Loved Bestsellers Exclusive Beauty Kit costs £34.50 at Boots and contains five of the brand’s most popular products, two of which are full sized. Valued at over £96, the set contains the brand’s volume-giving Badgal Bang! Mascara, saving around £20 on its RRP as part of the deal.

But if it’s my favourite Clinique mascara you fancy trying, the best deal I’ve spotted is this duo set for £25.50, which you can buy here.
