Jake Paul could have his hands full with Roy Jones Jr should the two ever meet in the squared circle – according to a simulated bout between the pair of pugilists on the new ‘Undisputed’ video game

Jake Paul will dominate Roy Jones Jr if they ever face off in the ring – according to a hit video game.

The ‘Problem Child’, aged 27, grabbed headlines with his victory over former world champ Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Texas in November. He clinically dismantled his 58-year-old opponent across eight rounds, eventually winning by unanimous decision, despite some boxing peers expressing their distaste for the match-up.

One of them was Jones Jr, who told TMZ: “It makes me want to just go in there and test Jake Paul’s chin. You know he’s got a good punch, I know he’s capable of putting anybody out, but I don’t think Mike checked his chin at all. So I wouldn’t mind just having a shot to see could I get to his chin, test his chin.

“If he could take the shot, cool – or if he can catch me before I get to his chin, cool. But I would definitely like a shot to get in there and shoot at his chin, you know? I think Mike got the opportunity, Mike’s legs just didn’t look good top me from round one – I kept saying that and people didn’t understand what I was saying, but the first thing we see go on fighters are their legs. And when Mike fought me he still had good legs, but this fight I just didn’t like his legs from round one and it was what it was.”

But what would transpire if Jones Jr and Paul stepped into the ring? Would Paul emerge victorious, adding another prestigious name to his impressive 11-1 record? Or could 55-year-old Jones Jr avenge Tyson’s recent defeat?

While a match with Jones Jr might be enticing for Paul, he clearly has his eyes on a showdown with Canelo Alvarez in the near future. So, we decided to simulate a bout between the content creator and the former heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, and super middleweight title holder using the new ‘Undisputed’ video game. Here’s how it unfolded…

The Settings

In an attempt to make the bout as realistic as possible, we tweaked the in-game settings before the fight. We ramped up the AI difficulty of both fighters to the maximum ‘Undisputed’ setting, set the game type to ‘simulation’ and scheduled the fight over eight rounds – considering that most of Paul’s professional fights have been this long.

We turned off the ‘saved by the bell’ setting, as well as the ‘3 knockdown rule’ while leaving the damage and stamina modifiers at a setting of one. The referee leniency was also left at a default of five, with the maximum penalties slider set to a standard of three.

Round 1

Paul started off with a high guard, appearing extremely cautious, and managed to land a few solid body shots before being hit with a powerful left hand to the head. Jones Jr then landed a sweeping right hook that slightly staggered the ‘Problem Child’. As the round was ending, Paul surprised Jones Jr with a three-hit combo.

Round 2

Jones Jr immediately showcased his flashy footwork in the second round, dancing around Paul’s attempts and even lowering his hands in a display of bravado. However, a strong right hand to the body made him rethink his strategy before the two exchanged blows in the centre. It was a very tight round.

Round 3

At the start of the third round, Jones Jr began by dodging and attacking, but Paul started landing hits freely once he got a feel for the fight. Paul was momentarily stunned when he ducked into a heavy right uppercut as Jones Jr started focusing on the body due to a high guard. In frustration, Paul began swinging wildly but failed to connect.

Round 4

Early on, Paul was hit by a jab as sharp as a piston but retaliated with a check left hook. Jones Jr began throwing powerful body shots to push his opponent back before adding more damage with a right uppercut from an orthodox stance. However, Paul caught his adversary with a straight right as he was coming in, which sent him reeling – this was followed by an overhand right that knocked Jones Jr to the floor. The veteran managed to get up but was clearly rattled.

Round 5

Jones Jr appeared to be on unsteady legs when he was hit with a leading left hook, but knowing he needed to recover from a lost round, he decided to ramp up the pressure. Paul landed a well-timed counter with his left hand as Jones Jr moved in before ‘Captain Hook’ managed to land a three-hit combo to the head.

Round 6

Two opportunities for Jones Jr to end the fight surfaced at the close of the sixth round, but shockingly, the more seasoned fighter chose not to seize them. A slip and rip right hand shook Paul as the round neared its end, but Jones Jr opted not to go in for the finish – possibly due to the risk of being caught off guard. As the clackers signalled ten seconds remaining, Jones Jr landed another right hand which sent Paul reeling, but this time, the bell came to his rescue.

Round 7

Jones Jr found his mark with an impressive jab before launching bold combinations. He winded Paul with another left hook to the liver, but the content creator stood firm and began to retaliate. The pair went head-to-head, throwing everything they had left at each other as the round concluded.

Round 8

Both men were noticeably exhausted as the eighth and final round approached, both appearing hesitant despite being unsure of their standing on the scorecards. Jones Jr landed a powerful right midway through the round but little else as the fight drew to a close.

The ringside judges unanimously scored the bout 76-75 in favour of Paul, marking another victory over a seasoned player. The judges were in complete agreement on the round-by-round scoring, awarding Paul the first, second, fourth and fifth rounds – including a decisive 10-8 score in the fourth due to his knockdown.

It’s anyone’s guess how a match between the two would pan out if they ever face off in the ring, but if our simulation is anything to go by, fight enthusiasts might not be taken aback, considering Jones Jr’s age and lack of recent experience compared to his much more active and physically fit adversary.
