Mariah Carey has been accused of lip syncing after she performed her hit single All I Want For Christmas Is You during the NFL Christmas games on Friday as Netflix streamed Kansas City Chiefs vs Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans

Mariah Carey’s fans were left disappointed when they realised the queen of Christmas wasn’t performing live during the NFL Christmas game. Netflix was streaming the Kansas City Chiefs vs Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens vs Houston Texans games, along with the performances.

The diva had been announced to perform her record-breaking holiday hit All I Want for Christmas is You before the games. However, as the festive moment arrived, it wasn’t live as many had anticipated.

Mariah was seen singing on a high-rise building’s rooftop, adorned with all things Christmassy, from candy cane structures to Santa and his sleigh, and dancers dressed as Nutcrackers. Dressed in a red sparkly Nutcracker-inspired bodysuit with tights and black boots, she certainly looked the part.

Football highlights and scenes of people singing her famous Christmas track were interspersed between her pre-recorded performance. Fans took to social media to express their disappointment, according to The Mirror US, not only because the performance wasn’t live on the streaming site as they’d expected, but also accusing the 55-year-old of lip-syncing in the pre-taped performance.

On Twitter, one fan expressed disappointment over a pre-recorded Mariah Carey performance, stating: “we’re not even getting mariah singing live?? f*** did i tune in for. prerecorded AND lip syncing.” [sic]

Another fan echoed the sentiment, writing: “A Mariah Carey pre-recorded lip sync performance #NFLonNetflix. They could’ve kept that.”

Others chimed in with similar complaints, saying, “Why the hell is Mariah Carey performance PRE RECORDED? ! Like that’s a HUGGGEEE let down! ” and “Is it me or was Mariah performance lip synced.” [sic]

The performance aired before the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which kicked off at 1pm ET (6pm GMT) as part of Week 17 of the 2024 NFL season. The day’s schedule also included a later game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans, set to start at 4.30pm ET (9.30pm GMT), with Beyoncé scheduled to perform at the halftime show.

Mariah Carey’s appearance came on the heels of her recent holiday concert tour in the US, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of her iconic Merry Christmas album. The tour, which began on November 6 in Highland, California, and concluded on December 17 in Brooklyn, New York, featured a 90-minute setlist of 26 songs, including Carey’s hit tracks and holiday classics from her 1990s Christmas album.
