John Barrowman shared his disappointment in the lack of support he received from those around him after he was accused of flashing on set

John Barrowman hit out at the people who didn’t support him when he was caught up in a scandal that he thought ruined his career.

The actor stayed away from the spotlight in recent years after allegations of him flashing co-workers on the set of Doctor Who emerged. ITV announced he would no longer feature on Dancing On Ice as a judge in October 2021. The decision coincided with flashing allegations when he had a major role as the recurring guest character Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who, and later in the spin-off Torchwood which began in 2005.

John was accused of repeatedly exposing himself to co-workers on Doctor Who and Torchwood but numerous witnesses claimed the incidents were more of inappropriate pranks rather than anything amounting to sexually predatory behaviour. In a recent interview with The Mirror, he shared his disappointment in the lack of support from those around him and called the accusations ‘not true’.

“I lost a lot of trust in other people after what I went through because people that I thought would’ve been there for me, ran,” he said. “And a lot of them put themselves on the moral high ground and, to be honest with you, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

“The sad fact is not every one of them was toxic, they were just chicken s**t. They’re scared. They’re so scared of their own shadows and what they have done that they’re trying to protect themselves. I’ve always been there for people. No matter if you come to me and I might not have seen you in five to 10 years and you need help with something, I’m there to help you. And that was the big realisation: a lot of people don’t give a s**t.”

He called the incident a ‘stupid prank’ that turned into a narrative about him exposing himself, which he called ‘not true’. He continued: “We had pranks, but they were amongst the company members and we all laughed and had fun. I was being, in a sense, publicly punished and humiliated for those things and also being cancelled.”

Getting emotional, John added: “The one thing that I would never do in my life, and it makes me upset thinking about this, is that people would think I would harm a woman, that I would do something. And to be called a sexual harasser, I would never do anything to harm a woman or a man or anybody, transgender, you name it. That’s just not who this man is.”
