Chelsea legend John Terry and former Premier League referee Mark Clatterburg endured a frosty exchange on Monday evening as they participated in Baller League United Kingdom

John Terry and Mark Clattenburg saw a tense argument on the pitch as tempers flared at Baller League United Kingdom. The former Chelsea captain is managing 26ers in the new competition, while Clattenburg has taken up an officiating role.

And while London’s Copper Box is not exactly Stamford Bridge, the parties were more than happy to share some forthright opinions after a decision did not go in the direction that Terry hoped on Monday evening. The referee earned the ire of the ex-England international when his side appeared to be told to drop the ball and and to hand FC RTW, their opponents, possession.

Terry delivered some questionable language before telling Clattenburg: “I’m doing your job.” Managers in Baller League have the opportunity to use a referee challenge, which Clattenburg appeared to tell the 26ers boss not to use.

The former central defender ultimately did not issue his challenge on this occasion despite his protestations. And that moment was not the first that had seen some fiery tempers.

It was a testy affair between 26ers and FC RTW as Clatterburg sent off former Manchester United midfielder Josh Harrop earlier in the game. The 29-year-old, who made a single Premier League appearance for the Red Devils, was given his marching orders after halting a 26ers break and received a two-minute suspension.

Harrop took no prisoners as he cut down Sak Hassan on the byline. Hassan was quickly on his feet and heading in the ex-Preston ace’s direction to push him in retaliation.

It wasn’t long until both sides came together for some light physical confrontation, while some attempted to separate the perpetrators.

The game ended in a draw as 26ers earned their first point in the competition. Terry will have been frustrated not to come away with more as his team conceded late in the game as Manuchim Oke-William levelled the scoreline at 3-3.

The likes of Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Luis Figo are also involved in managing some of the sides in the competition, while YouTube stars Angry Ginge and Simon Minter, of the Sidemen, have taken the reins at others. Even former Premier League stars such as Marvin Sordell and Ciaran Clark have laced up their boots to compete.
