Jose Mourinho has had a far from simple start as Fenerbahce head coach but the former Manchester United manager has been staying at one of Istanbul’s most desirable hotels

Jose Mourinho has already racked up a six-figure hotel bill since taking charge of Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese – who will face former club Manchester United in the Europa League on Thursday night – is already under pressure in Istanbul having lost to closest rivals Galatasaray with Fenerbahce currently sitting fourth in the league table.

And suggestions that he has been living a life of luxury at his five-star hotel is unlikely to go down too well among the club’s renowned ultras.

Mourinho checked into the Four Seasons Hotel, which overlooks the Bosphorus, when appointed in early June and it is a destination where the cheapest room costs £1,000 a night.

The hotel describes itself as being “estled along the iconic Bosphorus Strait.” It “offers unparalleled views and an unforgettable experience,” with staff taking “pride in providing exceptional service and amenities to ensure your stay is nothing short of extraordinary.

Possessing “meticulously designed rooms and suites”, it has “world-class dining options” and a spa on site.

During his time at United, Mourinho spent 935 days living in a suite at The Lowry Hotel across from Old Trafford.

Thursday night’s meeting with his old team sees two managers under pressure collide with Erik ten Hag still walking a tightrope at United following a difficult start to the season.

But speaking on Sunday night at a Football Writers’ Association awards night, the Dutchman spoke of his high admiration for Mourinho.

“I really enjoy facing him and to play against him. He always has good teams. He is a winner and has won so many trophies,” said Ten Hag. “He’s an example for many managers so I will really enjoy playing against him.

“The spirit has always been high, but the mood will be better with a win. Everyone has high expectations of our team, so we have to win. We have to go for it every game and be determined. When we win, we enjoy it for 24 hours and then we move on.

“It is football, you have to live for now. What’s in the past is in the past, you have to prove yourself every day and in every season. So, we have to go for it and we will see where we end up, but our target is to win a trophy again.”
