A murderer who raped and tortured a schoolgirl she didn’t know, before killing her, made a chilling admission in court.

Dahbia Benkired, 27, has become the first woman in French history to be handed a whole-life sentence, after she was found guilty of the horror murder of Lola Daviet. The woman put Lola’s dead body in a suitcase and dumped it in the lobby of the apartment building where the young girl lived with her family, in 2022. Benkired made a horrific confession to the court, in the shocking trial that has gripped France and led to the rare whole-life sentence.

Lola’s mum Delphine told the court her daughter came home to eat on October 14, 2022, before heading out again. Delphine recalled her last words to her little girl and told the court: “I kissed her, I said ‘see you later’.”

Lola was approached by Benkired outside her apartment block, in north-eastern Paris. Benkired had been staying with her sister but left her house with two suitcases after the “love of her life” that morning “insulted” her and refused to have a child with her, the murderer told the court.

While walking Benkired passed Lola and told the court: “In my head, I said to myself ‘I’m going to hurt someone.'” She asked Lola to help her carry the suitcases into a building and she said yes. Benkired recalled the young girl saying her “parents don’t want” her to help strangers but the evil woman said “I told her ‘no, don’t worry.'”

Benkired pulled the young girl into an apartment and unleashed a horror hour and a half attack on the young girl where she was raped and tortured before having her mouth taped and suffocating to death.

The murderer made a chilling admission to the courtroom, according to LeParisien, and said: “I took revenge on the little girl. She was a weaker person than me. I didn’t choose her, it came suddenly.” She also said: “Since I had raped her, I might as well kill her.”

Lola’s mum told the court how she always told her children to shout and be wary of strangers, saying: “If you’re attacked, don’t hesitate to scream. There will always be someone who will hear you.” Delphine added: “I couldn’t save my Lola. My heart is forever broken.”

France’s Attorney General said Benkired, an Algerian immigrant who had illegally overstayed her student visa, had prayed on the teen “for pleasure and the satisfaction of sexual urges”. The judge, while reading out the verdict, described Benkired’s actions as “true torture”.

He said: “In determining the appropriate sentence, the court took into account the unspeakable psychological damage to the victim and her family in such violent and almost unspeakable circumstances.”

Following the sentencing, Delphine said: “We believed in justice and we got it.” Lola’s brother said: “We have restored the memory of my sister, we have restored the truth.”
