Newsreader Krishnan Guru-Murthy, 54, has been happily married to his wife Linda for 18 years and was recently inspired to lose weight after seeing her ‘hot’ transformation
When Krishnan Guru-Murthy isn’t presenting on Channel 4, he’s spending time with his doting wife Linda.
The 54-year-old broadcaster is best known for his journalism career, having covered General Elections, the funeral of Princess Diana, and the 2012 and 2014 Paralympics. The dad-of-two is a trustee of Duchenne UK and the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, and competed on Strictly Come Dancing last year.
But when he’s not busy in front of the cameras, Krishnan is a proud husband and father. As the TV presenter hosts a debate on the state of the NHS tonight, following C4’s Dispatches, the Mirror takes a look at his life off-screen…
Krishnan isn’t the only well-known face in his family – his sister, Geeta Guru-Murthy, is also a news presenter and journalist with BBC News. Geeta, 56, has mainly covered morning news bulletins since 2013 and was appointed a chief presenting role with the organisation earlier this year.
Krishnan met his wife Linda on a blind date over two decades ago, set up by their mutual pal Tim Hincks. He told The Guardian: “Tim worked with me on a show and introduced me to Lisa, who worked with his wife, Pippa.” The couple tied the knot in 2005 and share two children together, Jasmine, 18, and 16-year-old Jay.
Their big day was a “real mixture of Indian and British culture” and Lisa wore a blue sari for the occasion. In 2019, Krishnan shared a snap of their traditional Indian wedding day to mark their anniversary and wrote: “I can’t believe it’s 14 years! I’m very lucky.” Unlike her famous husband, Lisa is not in the public eye and little is known about her career.
However, it was Lisa who inspired him to do Strictly last year after “being asked for years”. Of his weight loss on the show, he told MailOnline: “My wife is enjoying that I am a little bit lighter than I was. In a way, I’ve been trying to keep up with her… I think she’s pleased I have started pulling myself together, getting fitter and looking a bit more presentable.”
He added: “I am a bit obsessed with being overweight and unattractive. My wife has never talked in those terms, but she has always talked about me being healthy. Women in their 50s are looking amazing and my wife and her friends are all looking amazing, so men have become insecure about having hot wives.”
