Dozens of Lauryn’s Instagram followers celebrated the mum-of-two’s campaign for reform of the UK’s Child Maintenance Service, with one praising her as “phenomenal”
Lauryn Goodman has shared a major update on her ongoing child maintenance battle with former footy lover Kyle Walker.
The Celebs Go Dating star, turned campaigner for child maintenance service reforms was embroiled in a family court showdown with Walker, 34, last year that saw a judge order the footballer to make child maintenance payments until 2025 and 2031. While finding Walker had been fair in his payments to Lauryn, 33, they also ruled that he pay childcare until 2025 and 2031.
Lauryn’s journey is not over yet, however, despite having “been through hell and back fighting for my children”, and has taken her to the UK’s halls of power. The mum-of-two has revealed on social media that she recently met with her MP on a high-profile trip to the House of Commons.
Posting on Instagram, Lauryn said she was invited to the Commons to speak about her experience with the Child Maintenance Service (CMS) by Peter Kyle, the MP for Hove and Portslade who also serves as the Government’s Secretary for Science, Innovation and Technology. She urged her supporters not to “give up on your little ones”.
Lauryn said: “CMS UPDATE! So I was lucky enough to be invited to the Houses of Parliament to have a meeting with my MP @peterjkyle about the CMS issues you guys have all been facing. I put forward all of the issues for both the receiving parents and the paying parents.
“I felt it wasn’t my place to put forward solutions as such as I didn’t know enough about it but I wanted to be a voice for all of you as I know how hard it can be to be heard. Peter emailed me after the meeting to say a consultation had closed but they wanted to hear my personal story alongside all of the CMS issues I had gathered.
“Peter kindly spoke to Janet Daby MP, who is reviewing the CMS. He stated she would respond to my points and so I handed over all of the issues you had put forward. I am now waiting to hear back from Janet in response to the issues I put forward on everyone’s behalf. Once I have heard more I shall update you all further.
“If anyone is having repetitive issues please be persistent with your MP. Don’t give up on your little ones. I am really grateful to Peter and his team and look forward to hearing from them soon. I will reply to you all in the comment section. Do you agree the CMS should be reviewed?”
Her announcement won widespread approval from her followers, with dozens of other people speaking about the issues they had faced with the system. One follower wrote: “You are absolutely phenomenal Lauryn, honestly I take my hat off to you and respect you so much! Thank you on behalf of all parents suffering from this.”
Another added: “Well done Lauryn, let’s hope things start to change, for the better.” Lauryn’s move comes after she opened up to the Mirror about plans to move abroad. She told us: “For the last year I wished to have the option to move abroad because, with all of the drama, I’d like a life reset, but I’m not sure how that looks for us at the minute or what that entails.”
