Daniel Farke’s future as Leeds manager has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks and Ethan Ampadu has now given his thoughts on the former Norwich boss

Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu has hailed manager Daniel Farke amid speculation over his future. Farke has successfully guided Leeds back to the Premier League, with their promotion from the Championship confirmed last week.

However, reports have claimed that Leeds are considering sacking Farke due to ‘reservations’ about his ability to keep them up next season. Farke has had two previous spells in the top flight with Norwich, with the first ending in relegation and the second seeing him sacked with the club bottom of the league.

Ampadu, though, has backed Farke when asked about the manager following Leeds’ 4-0 win over Bristol City on Monday. “He’s shown in the past he’s got a lot of success,” Ampadu said.

“He’s given us advice, he’s given us tips, he’s been there and done it so for us it’s about learning that. He gives everyone that confidence to go and do what we can do.”

Farke was quizzed about his future ahead of the game and said: “It’s not surprising because I knew exactly which club I signed for. I’m not sure how many managers Leeds have had in the last 20 years, but normally, it’s a good effort if you last for three months.

“Once you sign for this club, you know from this moment there is lots of pressure, lots of noise, lots of expectation. It’s nothing new or nothing I wouldn’t expect because this club is so emotional and so big.

“Journalists from all over the country, who are never here, have never spoken to one person within the club. Of course, they want to write about Leeds and if you want to deliver some news that is clicked, you have to bring shock news.”

Farke also opened up about his relationship with club chairman Paraag Marathe and revealed they have begun planning for next season. “We’ve got a really trustful and really good relationship,” he said.

“I talked to Paraag last night. We are already speaking about a few things, what we want to do in the future. It also lasted a while until I said yes to Leeds because I wanted to speak, two years ago, about a few things.

“It was not an easy decision to go back to the Championship. For no other club, would I have taken the challenge of this big race in the Championship.

“We’re working pretty hard to have a proper budget. You need to make sure you improve in every department. We have to invest in the training ground. We have to invest in the playing squad.

“There will, hopefully, be many new incomings, quality and the right players to improve you. That’s quite important. We want to invest in the stadium anyhow. You have to improve every day as a club in all areas.

“This is what we’re working on. It’s not just one simple target, you just sign one or two players and that’s it, you have to be good in many decisions.”
