Liam Payne was delivered his favourite snack by a friend, who described him as ‘in good spirits’ and listening to his ‘favourite One Direction song’ in the hours before he died

Liam Payne’s friend has claimed the star was in ‘good spirits’ before he died as he gave a previously unheard account of his final days.

Sources close to Liam have now said they believe he could have been saved if an ambulance had been called to his Buenos Aires hotel where the star was reported as ‘acting erratically.’

Speaking about Liam’s final days, they said the One Direction was in a good place and looking forward to reuniting with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy in Miami after resolving his via issues. The friend also told how they brought Liam his favourite food before he died and found him ‘re-working’ his favourite One Direction chat.

Tragic Liam died instantly after falling from his third-floor hotel room onto a patio below at 5.04 on Wednesday.

A friend has revealed that the singer arrived in Argentina on September 30 with girlfriend Kate Cassidy and friend Roger Nores as his US visa was expiring and he had to leave the States. He made the decision to travel to Buenos Aires to watch Niall Horan in concert and pick up a new visa.

The source told The Daily Mail that when Liam went to the embassy, he was ordered to do a string of medical tests after officials Googled his name and read about past stints in rehab. He was left waiting to get the all-clear from medical and psychiatric physicians.

His girlfriend Kate then jetted back to America to take care of her dog, when Liam checked himself into the CasaSur hotel. According to his friend, Liam’s credit cards stopped working so he had to spend a lot of time in his room.

At 10am on the day of his death, Liam’s pal took him his favourite “American style” chocolate chip cookies and had a coffee with the star.

As reported by the Mail, Liam was “happy and in good spirits”, albeit understandably frustrated with his situation.

According to the source, when Liam’s friend arrived at the hotel to bring Liam his cookies, from a local bakery, he seemed “tipsy” but was in a “good place” and was “planning for the future” with his girlfriend and their dog. Having spent time at a polo farm with Kate Cassidy, his partner, Liam checked into the hotel on Monday, after she left for Miami to take care of the couple’s dog.

They told the paper: “On Tuesday he asked for a McDonald’s. He was happy and in good spirit.”

He said Liam’s reports for his visa “came back totally clean on Tuesday and he had an appointment at the embassy to get his passport stamped with the visa on Thursday and then he was going to leave Argentina immediately.”

The singer is said to have ordered whisky and champagne from the hotel bar, before going back to his room.

Staff at the hotel went on to call his friend Roger, reporting he was causing a disturbance. He returned to the hotel to take Liam to his room, apologising to guests on Liam’s behalf.

Another hotel guest recalls that Liam went back down to the lobby numerous times. Brett Watson, from Chicago, told ITV: “There was an incident where he was very frustrated and was smashing his laptop in the lobby.” He added: “The final time he came back down he actually passed out in the lobby of the hotel, looked like he was convulsing a little bit and had to be physically taken back to his room.”

The source added: “If Liam was convulsing, why didn’t the hotel call an ambulance immediately?”
