Details have been revealed on Liam Payne’s unreleased songs, which give a rare insight into his thoughts before he tragically died at age 31 after he had fallen to his death
One year on from Liam Payne’s tragic death, details have been revealed on new songs he had recorded for his second solo album, which reportedly includes a song called Safe In Heaven. One Direction star Liam Payne died at age 31 after he had fallen to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he was alone after his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, 26, flew home.
Liam fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Palmero Hotel around 5pm local time on 16 October 2024, with his funeral held in Amersham, Bucks, the following month. Now, a source has claimed that Liam finished his second record prior to his death, which included a track labelled Safe In Heaven and another titled Rainbows.
Lyrics to the song Rainbows are said to include: “I got all these rainbows over my head, but somehow I see the sun creeping out the mess. At times I tend to blur lines, seemed like a good idea when I did it at the time. I blacked out but coming back around.”

A source told The Sun: “Liam was really proud of his second album, but the label was concerned he wasn’t in the right headspace to release it. Ultimately, this led to them going their separate ways. The whole record is really emotional and feels almost autobiographical. It’s the most personal body of work Liam ever wrote and recorded.”
The publication claimed that discussions on the album and its future are on ‘hold’. It follows after tributes to the late star poured in on the one-year anniversary of his death on October 16.
Kate Cassidy, the girlfriend of Liam, shared an emotional tribute to the late One Direction star. Sharing a black and white picture of the two of them on Instagram, she captioned it: “Today marks a full year without you here. I will forever hate goodbyes. I miss you Liam.”
In the photograph, Kate is smiling with her eyes closed and lies on top of Liam, who has his arm around her and is kissing her cheek. She also posted a picture to her Stories. That one was also black and white and had Liam beaming at the camera while Kate, wrapped up in a coat, hat and scarf, hugs him from the side.
Liam’s bandmate Louis Tomlinson tearfully admitted he will “never really accept” his pal’s death a year after the star tragically fell from a hotel balcony.
In a candid interview with The Independent, Louis admitted: “I naively thought that, at this point, I’d unfortunately be a little bit more well-versed with grief than other people my age.
“I thought that might mean something, but it didn’t at all,” Louis added before he said of Liam’s death: “It’s something I’ll never really accept. I don’t think.”
The singer’s latest candid interview comes after he revealed he exact moment he found out about his pal’s death. Speaking to host Steven Bartlett on The Diary Of A CEO podcast, Tomlinson said he was in Los Angeles when he first heard of Payne’s death. “In the car, in LA. I found out through Niall”, he added: “He was definitely struggling at that time in his life.”
Liam Payne’s sister Nicola also shared a heartbreaking tribute as she wrote on Instagram: “A year ago today marks a date I never wanted to see again. The day our lives changed forever and our hearts were left broken, with pieces missing. That night, unaware of what you were going through, that you were alone.”
She went on to say that she will ‘always talk’ about him and ‘hopes’ that he is happy. Nicola finished a lengthy tribute with: “I love you, Liam. I will never not miss you, and will forever be so proud of you.”
Liam’s sister Ruth also shared her own message to her little brother as she said she has been “paralysed” by the grief. She said in a post: “I underestimated grief, woah did I underestimate it. I am paralysed by it daily. I thought I had felt it before but I know the losses before you were just intense sadness, you are the loss of my life, the one person who I will miss at every single occasion in my life. I’d taken for granted that my little brother would be there through life, what a cruel lesson to learn in our 30s, that a sibling is not guaranteed to be a lifer, that I have to face this without you.”
